Best Value MP3 Player

Looking for something for the kids. Not just for music but they use my 8yr old Sansa to listen to the racing over the fm radio when we go to the track. I'm seeing $60 Sansa players but there are so many really cheap ones from china etc. Has anyone had any experience with the cheap ones? does anyone have a good recommendation I could look into.
Thanks

The cheap ones have very bad audio quality. Generally anything you see on the 'bay for less than $15~20 dollars all use the same crappy sound chipset.

These includes the ones that are shaped to look like Sansa Fuze and Clip+ knock offs, plus all those ones that resemble Ipod Nanos and Shuffles. They are crap and their batteries fail after about a month's worth of solid use.

I bought about 2 of the AA battery powered ones and they both turned out to sound worse than my old 2012 Nokia dumbphone, and with a display that small it's hard to browse tracks on the device.

If you have a phone lying around with Mp3 capability, they might be more usable.

    • Thankyou. Wish the Sansa was $15 like 8yrs ago.

Just bought 2 of this cheap China Mp3 about 2 months ago

RUIZU X06 : built in speaker, long battery life, very good when use with Bluetooth speaker

ONN W8 : got built in speaker ( sound good when listen to this speaker), battery life not good and not good when use with Bluetooth speaker(sound seem like 64kbs bitrate)

Both of them very good when i try listen by the headphone, they seem good as my LG G2 and Samsung S5 sound quality, bought it for my mum so im not test the mp3s much : ) you can see more review in this site http://mp3playeradvisor.com/best-mp3-players-with-bluetooth/

mp3 player are useless, at that point, buy a phone. A lot of phone (especially the cheap ones) properly have a fm radio here one. https://www.bigw.com.au/product/optus-alcatel-20-45x/p/WCC10… This phone has a mp3 player and a fm radio + can call and text, has bluetooth (for bluetooth speakers), can take pictures and can even go on the internet! (going to be very slow) It's perfect! If you have a lot of music, just buy a sd card, shouldn't be soo expensive. like the SanDisk 8GB Ultra MicroSDHC Memory Card which is around $8-$9

    • Thankyou these sound like what I need. $19 is a great price too.

      • your welcome

        • the only problem with phones is that dac quality is variable but hey, if you have the phone already…

eg. i have old phones with 8Gb cards and they would do fine

they dont sound as nice as my current phone though

I bought the same model for my elderly dad and it's a VERY VERY good dumb phone for oldies. The keys are large and light up brightly. And yes, is has FM radio unlike iPhones and most high end Android phones.

      Very good value!

Phones. I picked up a sony one that worked really well, was only $30 and the sony phones have nice audio

    • What model?

      • xperia e1

        • Release in early 2014 it's probably too old to be easily obtainable.

But pretty much any low end Android phone will make a decent iPod touch alternative with FM radio.

yes i bought it along time ago, just buy whatever the modern sony phone equivalent is. There's tonnes that are up for a bargain on ozb regularly.

  • I bought a couple of refurbed sansa clip+ a few years ago, both still working great. can't remember where I got them now, maybe Amazon?

  • I bought this Ruizu brand one from Gearbest and had no problems with it. I know a lot of people here don't like Gearbest but I have never had an issue with them.
