SAMSONITE LITE-SHOCK SPINNER 75CM PETROL BLUE

Light and sturdy travel suitcase made from Samsonite's patented Curv material.
I've used Samsonite Curv range of travel luggage for a while now, also purchased from Luggagegear a few years ago.

From what I can see, Cosmolite, Firelite, Lite-shock seem to be all very similar with very slight difference in shape and weight, while the Lite-Cube has more bells and whistles (but more pricey and heavy).
They are more expensive compared to other brands, but to me it is worthwhile when every gram counts at the airline check-in desks.

Some specs that matter;
* Patented Curv material
* 4 spinner wheels
* Monotube handle - extends in 2 stages, but seems thinner than other models.
* 3 digit TSA combination lock
* Made in Europe
* Size: 75cm x 51cm x 31cm
* Weight: 2.5kg (extremely light for a hard case of this size)
* Capacity: 98.5 litres
* Warranty: 10 Years

Other colours are listed for $509 (without coupon) but only Petrol Blue is listed as $382.

I applied one of the old coupons found in ozb, and the above mentioned coupon code took extra 5% off, down to $362.90.

Luggagegear ships items for free (to an Australian postal address, I presume) if over $80, so free delivery thrown in.

I read on some travel forums that certain European airlines have check-in luggage size limits, and the 75cm size is practically the maximum you travel worry-free on size limits.

  • Can anyone please explain the different models in Samsonite? Cosmolite FL, Cosmolite 3, Lite Shock, Firelite…which one is the later model?

    • +4

      Apart from the Lite-cube series, I think they are mostly different only in appearance - save the minor differences in internal dividers.

      • Cosmolite (original) -> Cosmolite FL (bit lighter) -> Cosmolite 3 (current model) : same series, all have the distinct shell-like pattern.
      • Lite-Locked : similar to Cosmolite series in looks, but has 3-point locking system, relatively new. More expensive than cosmolite.
      • Firelite : has horizontal ripple-like pattern.
      • Lite-Shock : a different looking horizontal patterns - relatively new model with very light weight.
      • Cubelight -> Lite-cube : luxury lineup, more bells and whistles, but heavier.
  • Why buy samsonite? Surely you are just paying for the brand at this stage. Theres lots of other good cheaper ones like antler.

      Samsonite claims their Curv material is lighter and stronger than other company's polycarbonate (lighter but brittle in cold) or polypropylene (heavier) materials. I can vouch for the light weight and strength from my personal experience.
      Another site has a page on it. Again, personal choice in the end.
      Cheap, Light and Strong - it seems we can only pick two.

        it seems we can only pick two.

        Really? We're talking about building a box on wheels. I'm struggling to see how this is a huge hurdle that only one luggage company has managed to overcome.

    • One of my friend has one that I always borrow on big trips. They are a lot lighter and more spacious then the average luggage. Also a lot easier to wheel around and smoother too. Not sure if worth the full price but if you do find out cheap, definitely reccomend it.

  • Luggage deals don't seem to get much love (I've learned…). This is a good one!

    I have this suitcase and have used it heaps since purchasing. This deal has a great price.

    The colour is gorgeous in person. However be warned that it gets pretty scuffed up after a few trips and doesn't look as pretty. The quality of the suitcase itself is top notch though - very strong and very light.

  • I picked up one of these for $500 a few months ago - great case. Amazingly light.
    For that price, and if you're after one of the lightest hard cases around I think it's a great deal.

  • Cheapest I've ever seen them 55% discount, great find.

  • Thanks. Just ordered one. Can't believe it weighs less than my drone backpack.

    How many boxes of headphones do they fit ?

  • Do you know if I can price match at Myer or dj?

  • Darn! Missed out!
