How Much for Flights to Japan? [Mid Sept]

Hi All!

So me and my gf are looking to go to Japan Mid September (16th or so) and come back 30th of Sept (just in time for Ultra Japan).
Does anybody have a rough idea of how much flights should be?
Personally I'm looking at $800-900 for direct/short stopover flights with a good airline, or $600-700 for long stopover flights with a crap one. Any pointers?

Also if anybody has tips for where to go around that time etc. please advise!

I'm looking for the same but from Adelaide - Tokyo.

Can you please PM me with the info on how to save :)?

    • Turned on messaging! PM me!

    • And me too please! The prices aren't what they used to be :(

Isn't easier to just do a quick search than to type up a whole new post?

    • I'm more wondering what would be considered a good price for flights around that time :)

Not necessarily, "what is the price?"

      • I'm not trying to be an a-hole or anything. haha

You can usually go to one of the websites like iwantthatflight.com.au, skyscanner.com.au or even webjet.com.au to have a quick look - it shows the prices of the flights on a large enough number of airlines to give you an idea of what the prices are going for around that time for the dates you want. It's quite a good indicator that you can then use to make your decision on what you think is cheap and what's not.

When comparing the prices of budget airlines to full service carriers, remember to consider the costs of checkin luggage and any costs associated if there's any chance you might need to change your flights at the last minute.

I was looking at flights from Perth for a week later than your dates…they were around $850-950 (depending on most convenient times) with Singapore Airlines and that's during school holidays. I saw Thai airlines had cheaper flights but longer lay overs (7hrs+) so best to use Sky scanner to see which works out best for you. We ended up choosing later dates outside of the school holidays but still similarly priced. The prices haven't fluctuated much with them and I've been looking for ages.

Last yr we managed flights (in May) with Cathay Pacific for $750 I think and those were short layovers too.

I would try and fly in n out of Haneda if flights are the same price as it is much closer than Narita. air Asia takes this route but I don't think they are much cheaper to book at the moment.

Good luck and have an amazing time at Ultra! Wish we didn't have kids lol

    • We found flights leaving Sydney with 3 hours stopover in Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific for around $850 a month ago.

A close friend told us we should get it for cheaper and so we ended up holding off but now kicking ourselves :(

      • I'm assuming Syd would be a bit more than from Perth. It's really hard to tell with flight prices. When I booked we totally got jipped, prices went up by $350 but it said a few seats left n so I booked straight away. Went back in a few hrs later and the prices had dropped!!! Was so annoyed! Did the system lie or was there a massive cancellation? I'll never know :(

When I booked last yr with Cathay, I booked an extra ticket maybe less than 2 months out and the ticket was $1400….but then a few wks later they had a special for $750 again…

It's still a little while away so another special might come up again…and i think it just depends on if there's any cancellations of the cheap tickets. There's websites where you can keep track of how full the plane is which could help with your decision to book now or wait :)
