  • Make some Indonesian friends who lives here but also have accounts there.

never use it but ofx might be the way to go.

i just gave my citibank debit card to my relative in case I need to transfer money :)

    • i was on that too, i wonder if anyone have experience with OFX?

Yes - OFX is fine. Have a look at worldfirst too - better exchange rages.

That's a small amount in the money transfer world?

They don't take credit cards? That'll get you a decent exchange rate.

    • if that is the case it is a small amount lol

no, they don't take credit cards

      • If they only accept direct deposits in to an Indonesian account, then your only option is to do a wire through your bank or use a international payment service like OFX, WorldFirst, etc.

Have you asked them how other foreigners paid in the past? Maybe they'll take paypal as a one-off.

Withdrawing money at an ATM in indo in cost effective too.

        • Thanks, is the Citi card the best way to withdraw money from the ATM in Bali?

OFX is fine, transfer to Indo will take 4 or 5 working days though, so have to take that into account.

Transferwise, that the best one that I found if I need to transfer to my relative in Indonesia

    Try any of these

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/ofx.com
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/currencyfair.com
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/transferwise.com

If you go through the OzBargain OFX link, they waive the fee, or the other two have referral bonuses if you join with one of the random referral links

Think they charge $15-$20 fixed & exchange rate isn't great.

  • I've been using http://www.kangaroo-service.com for some time now
They use like a domestic transfers, meaning your A$ stays in Australia, then they'll transfer the money from their Indonesian account to your Indonesian account, so that will give you the fastest transfer time.
