Dodo Power Just Put Me in The Doo Doo - Need Help to Change Electricity Provider

We all know how hard it is to compare electricity costs across the various companies.

They all seem to offer % discounts. However, the discounts are meaningless without knowing the standard rate and daily supply charge.

Dodo used to have one of the best offers in that you got a 20% discount off some of the lowest rates and daily supply charge.

Not any more. I just received a price increase notice and some of the increases are shocking (pun intended). All prices include GST:

Daily supply: 84.645c to 95.755c (13% increase).

Usage: 25.685c to 29.447c (14.6% increase).

Controlled load: 9.405c to 13.805c (47% increase!)

I use very little electricity (less than 2kwh per day, like an OzBargain champ).

Do you know who has the best net rates (after discounts)?

Given my low usage, I'm particularly interested in the lowest daily supply charge.

At least they sent you notice - a lot of other companies just jack the price up as soon as you're out of contract and then wait until your next bill to tell you, up to three months later

    Eneloops. lol

  • I just switched to HydroPacific (I think it is Vic only).

Approx: 79c per day (Daily supply) 19c pkwh (inclusive of GST).

Seems good.Might need to jump from AGL.They have increased prices and even with AGL's 20% off- 30% off blah blah blah, Pacific hydro seems cheaper.

      • Yeah I just had a look at that too seems only S.A & Vic not Nsw

    • Same here after Powershop ripped me off for months.

  • agl. 84.55 daily & 27.027 usage before 23% usage discount so same as dodo pretty much but no price hike yet.

  • dodo doing something good?
    WOW

  • Ill keep an eye on the other stuff too, but right now I want to know how you get buy on 2kw/h per day of electricity!?

Eneloops all charged at Work? :p

My actual use is 1.7kwh per day.

OzBargaining like a boss and living like a hobo.

Turn off the hot water system at the meter. Only turn it on 20 minutes before I need to shower and then turn it off immediately after I shower. This measure alone cut almost 40% off my electricity bill.

Solar charged lamps during the day to give light at night.

Portable induction cooktop for cooking (very efficient).

Wearing thermals and layers instead of using heating.

Given my low usage, the usage charge is not as important to me as getting a low daily supply charge.

      • Do you have a refrigerator? 1.7kw/h per day is around 71 watts per hour! thats tiny!

  • Wow that's cheap, rural NSW is around $1.50-1.70 for daily supply and around 25 c/kWh. (all ex GST)

I've been working with energy and solar future pricing and it seems like prices are only going up, which is good (feed in tariff) and bad ( energy prices)

    …..With the proposed IPART changes…..

    https://www.ipart.nsw.gov.au/Home/Industries/Energy/Reviews/…

Solar is looking like a cost effective option.Especially considering the wholesale rate for electricity has doubled since October from $60/MWh (6c/kWh) to $120 /MWh (12c/kWh). Also environmental costs associated with electricity billing are expected to increase. The networks have yet to declare the 17/18 offering, but I can't see them having much justification for further gauging given the price increases since 2010 (and to think Abbot had all the dumbarses fooled it was the carbon pricing mechanism driving prices higher, looking back at the data you can see how well Australia was fooled by short term thinking and the coal lobby)

  • Yes received this from DODO today as well. Did a quick price comparison and find that on current prices DODO is cheapest for me but with the new price increase I could save $350 with Click Energy. However unless there is a guarantee that Click will hold their rates for at least 12 months is it worth switching over?.

    • I'm with Click, I ran the numbers and for me the AGL deal featured on Ozbargain a few days ago works out cheaper than my current Click because of the discount off energy prices, free month and $50 sign up
….And some retailers are offering a price fix, but then you don't get a discount

    2kw/h daily ?

just hook a dynamo on bicycle connected to eneloops and go off grid.

  • Who did you end up switching to?

As you can see it's a govt website. Compares all the providers in your area and fives you the best deal.

Just enter in what you told us and filter by what you want.

Double check that savings are against usage AND supply.

  • I called them and they changed the discount from 20% to 25%. This is their current offer, and the rates are otherwise the same.

    Took about 5 minutes.

    Good luck.
