Workaround When Virgin Economy Rewards Are 'Sold Out'

I did a search today for One Way, DPS (Bali) to Sydney.
Result for the actual flight that I wanted:-
'ECONOMY REWARD' 'SOLD OUT'. 'ANY SEAT ECONOMY' 69,400 +$49.82

Searched DPS (Bali) to Hervey Bay (Via Sydney).
ECONOMY REWARD 32,600 $66.73
Same flight DPS to Sydney. But about 37,000 FF points less plus $7.
And will terminate my travel in Sydney!

Just reminding people that these 'workarounds' exist.

  • Just as long as your luggage don't go to Hervey Bay…

    • International flights you have to collect your baggage so that your Coke can be discovered 'with the defendant'!

      • Hopefully no one shoves a bodyboard in your coke bag

        • True! They are really hard to get up - even the most humongous schnoz!

  • +3

You should probably also remind people to only do this on the last leg of travel if they are going to do it, as the rest of their itinerary will be cancelled. And that they can also get black-listed by the airline for doing it repeatedly.

  • Haha that is awesome Peck. Nice one.
.. although it's odd that DPS-HVB via SYD gives you redemption availability on the DPS-SYD leg. Actually kinda sounds like an anomaly now that I think about it.

    • I think that the flight that I wanted DPS - SYD, is the only flight with realistic connection to HVB, and for some reason, they then open it up as available as an ECONOMY REWARD! So 'SOLD OUT' doesn't actually mean sold out. Just 'SOLD OUT' if you are only travelling as far as Sydney.
