What Are The Best Mobile Broadband Options Available to Me?

I've recently moved out but my house is too old and doesn't have a telephone line.

Before moving, I opened up a new month to month 30GB for $80 deal with Vodafone but I've done more research since and found the Optus 50GB for $70. I've also tried Vividwireless but they don't have coverage in my area.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Hows the Optus deal in terms of speeds?

I'm a high traffic user, and I'd reckon 50GB would be in the sweet spot. I'm looking for something priced between $70-90, month to month.

    I can do you one better - 50GB Optus 4G for $60 a month: https://www.ovo.com.au/ovo-data

    Good luck!

    • Thanks for this. Would you happen to know if my R215 Vodafone modem would work with this? Is it possible to check based on what frequency the device and the provider uses?

Ok R215's tech spec here: http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/hardware/?action=h_view&model_…

Looks like it is missing support for Band 28 and 40. This doesnt mean it wont work on optus, just that performance may be affected if your local cell tower supports only 28/40. From my understanding, all cell towers transmit in multiple bands to ensure no one gets dropped off.

Also, your vodafone R215 needs to be unlocked before if works with Optus or its resellers.

The only band that overlaps vodafone and optus in 4G is 1800MHz, so your reception/performance wont be top notch. Consider buying a optus supported mifi router or use an old optus phone as hotspot.

        • Thanks mate, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Virgin has $60 for 40GB if you wanted to save a bit of money whilst retaining storefront support - full Optus network, too.

  • Vividwireless uses part of the Optus network (2300 band I think). So perhaps purchase one of the prepaid Optus sim first to test before comitting to a contract.
