      Holy Crap…Barry!

      He made that place fun.

    • +3

      Barry is a LEGEND! :D

    • I'd just said to my husband I wonder if that's where that self service guy was singing to us as we did our shopping - and here he is. I've only been to Perth once but he definitely stuck out hope they let him do his thing wherever he ends up.

My immediate thought when I saw this

    • i remember Bazza from his days at the Northbridge Coles before it became an IGA.
wondered where he ended up after that.

    • Coles will reopen later in 2018 when the renovations are completed, so Barry may return then. :)

      STFU, Casey.

    • Should have use this as my header :-)

  • +1

I wonder why they are closing down… you would think they would be doing well

    • +5

They have to close down for the rebuild of the new raine Square (http://www.rainesquare.com.au) which looks quite good even though this build isn't that old.

The surprising thing that one of the owners told us the development was moved forward because it was apparently a popular suicide place which has been kept pretty quiet hadn't seen or noticed any of it in the news

Apparently people were swan diving into the food court

        Down, down….. .

      • +3

        Media never report suicide.
I personally think they should, as it's a huge issue these days. Not enough people talk about it and they should.
The argument is that suicidal people will copy the media coverage, thus making things worse.
I work in media, go to these things all the time. It's terrible, it's happening, no-one talks about the issues.
        And. They. Should.

        • You work in the media and go to these things all the time and never report it?

        • +1

          @Diji1:
Once we get confirmation it's suicide we don't report it, no.
It's how all media outlets operate.
          We'll say it's a non-suspicious death.

        • Any reporting should not include detailed location information. Saying it's a suicide to aid others in seeking/discussing and getting help is different imho.

I've had to initiate maintenance/installations to stop copycats. You would be surprised at how effective it seems to be to put up protective screens at a hot spot.

i frequent this mall, more specifically coles, and this is news to me. You would think at that height, which is only 2 stories, people will be breaking appendages instead of having any success in killing themselves…

      • Used to be in Myer Perth.

    • Complex is being renovated, so forced to move out by owner.

        @Toons & @Ayanami

        Thanks for the insights

        • I'm pleased with the new development but looking forward to having a cinema back in the city,

just a bit sad they pushed it through for the reason they did never good to hear i thought they would have put a big net across to stop it after the first couple.

        • @Toons:

Surely can't get them all though. So many places are high rise - it's popular probably as it's a gateway between the train station and surrounds..

  • Thanks OP picked up a few more packets of batteries for 11$ which, seemed ok to go into my eneloop collection

    • I got those also… 2300a version… so not bad, didn't go for the Coles aaa one

  • +13

    Do they offer Raine checks?

  • +2

Rebel Sport is clearing out downstairs at 50% off everything. Pretty much raided now though.

    • No wonder all those peeps on the bus had so many rebel sports bag.

    • Yeah nothing good left

  • can anyone find me a cheap return ticket to perth!!

    • +1

Tiger air with return for $1. Not sure on what their baggage rates are

  • +1

Strange as I would think they would send the merchandise to another store before flogging it for cheap.

    • +3

Store policy is to always retain stocked shelves…

They can't send it to another store as-

      • It would be a logistic nightmare to "stock take"/transport

      • It would be a logistic nightmare to reshelve every single item.

Plus they aren't loosing much by selling at 50%
Thier margins are close to that.
But then again when you account for; GST,rent, staff, stolen property e.t.cetera
They are probably loosing ≈10% per item

edit: saw above post. so they'll be back after the renos then hopefully, every man needs $1 maryland cookies!

So happy im on holidays in Perth, hitting this Coles and Rebel today!

  • Thanks OP got some good bargains.

    • Anything good left? Planning to go there tomorrow but not sure if they still have anything worth buying.

  • +1

What An absolute disappointment I assumed all non food was half price . A tiny minority of non food was half price . Everything else was regular prices . Also popped into rebel as they are closing down today everything was almost gone .

    • Yup! Went today, nothing special. Some of the catalogue specials weren't in the store.

      • +1

Coles Raine Square is probably one of a few Coles stores that doesn't participate in Coles catalogue specials, however they do have their own specials from time to time.

Thanks Sevenofnine!! I was actually in the city on Friday, walked past Coles to see when they were closing and stupidly didn't pop in. Doh!
I managed to get in on Sunday anyway and picked up some bargains!! I went online whilst there and checked the prices of the items I wanted to other retailers and other Coles stores to ensure I was actually getting a good deal. So yeh, I got 50% off things like batteries, glass ware (beer glasses, tumblers, high-ball glasses - wine glasses were sold out though. Darn!! They had Coles branded wine glasses but they were full price.). For my Bali trip(s) I bought probiotics, Aeroguard +DEET 40%, Berocca Fizzy Melts.

A lot of clothes washing liquids/powders were sold out.
A lot of the vitamins were sold out … however many of those items have been on sale at Coles other stores for around 30% - 50% off in the past month anyway. There is still a fair bit left though.
All of the Tresemme hair shampoos etc have been sold out. There is still some shampoos/conditioners. Womens hair colour is on sale but Mens isn't. ??? :(
There is still a fair bit of AA & AAA batteries left. Button batteries are pretty much gone.
Not much in the way of light bulbs.
As per the OP's pictures - still plenty of cheap USB/HDMI/Lightning/Micro USB/audio etc cables. Cheap headphones too.
They have travel adaptors, sleep masks, neck cushions etc but limited variety.

Also note that at the moment not all items with yellow tickets are 50% off. They are much less off. I would also think that when they are ready to start selling off manufactured food items that the discounts may not be as high as 50% e.g. ground coffee.
Another thing to note is that if Coles still has stock in the back (store room) then you may find that sold out items may reappear on shelves.
I was there up until closing on Sunday so if you're in the city on Monday then I would recommend popping in as there are still a lot of really good bargains to be had… and remember the discounts don't apply to food items as yet. Head straight for the end 2 or 3 rows of shelves as they have the discounts.

    Happy bargain hunting!! :)

  • Glad I got the half priced umbrella on Friday and leave it in office for a rainy day…. large one (golf type) is $9. Near the entrance. Only in black, red and white…also small folded to half size one in black and leopard pattern around $5. Perth's weather is not so tourists friendly today

  • Friday 19th May
Popped in today and was hoping to grab some, or maybe ALL :D, the Dolce Gusto capsules and they were all gone!! :(
They told me they had no more out the back. Darn! The very one thing I was hoping to get.
It seems that pretty much 80% of grocery (food) items are on sale now but not a lot left. But still managed to pick up some fantastic bargains.
Coffee and tea (except beans and ground coffee) are 50% off.
If you're in the city get in quick. Items are literally flying off the shelves.
Make sure to look to the back of shelves and behind other items. I found a number of items I wanted, that appeared to be sold out, tucked away at the back behind other products etc.
    Good luck and happy hunting!!

  • Sunday 20th May
Items marked down today are: Deoderants, mens toiletries (razor blades ((further discounted)), shaving gel, hair colour etc), hand wash foams/liquids (refills, pump bottles and hands free dispensers), toothpaste (sensodyne, whitening, colgate pumps etc), sun block creams/sprays/after sun mists and tanning lotions. Basically everything in the toiletry section is marked down now, from approx. 40 - 50% off.
A small selection of olive oils and other oils, porridge/oats, a small selection of teas and coffees are still available. There is plenty of Cambells liquid stocks, Masterfood etc recipe base packets and bottles. Plenty of antacid liquids and chewable tablets.
Some of the general grocery items haven't been marked down as yet. Confectionary, soft drinks, sports drinks, jams/pastes, biscuits, Pataks products etc etc etc aren't being marked down at the moment.
They were still marking down various products when I was there. Keep popping in and checking back.
So far I've saved over $250 all up!!! …. and I would say I have 1 - 2 years supply of certain items. :)
Man this is just too much fun! :D Takes me back to the Masters closing down sales. Ahhh….

    • Woops, that should be Saturday not Sunday. :D
