My friend has been really tired and sick since becoming pregnant. I'd like to help her and her partner out by purchasing a gift card of sorts that they can use to hire someone to help with errands, clean the house etc.
I found Air Tasker but I'd rather something simpler with fixed rates as I don't want to complicate their life further by having to post jobs, then wait for responses etc.
Does anyone know of any options like this in Sydney?
Some people don't like hiring people like that, don't want their homes exposed etc
Could you volunteer some time yourself?

niggard: Unfortunately I can't afford a long term maid and feel that a one of hire, while it will be appreciated, won't be that helpful in the long term.
Spacebace: I do help out when I can, but like the idea of giving them a service that they can call to help out with random errands that they would not normally ask for help on.
Just check with them first to see if it's something they'd use/want :)
But it would ruin the surprise! You are right though. The other option is to purchase a voucher for a spa / message that I know they'll use.

Whilst a spa/massage would be appreciated quite often there are necessities that people get by without and that little bit of extra cash can make it happen.
It is the universal gift and the receiver is not forced to use it on something that may not be a priority to them.
Just a suggestion… :-) Nice thought for your friend whichever way you go.

They've got a great circle of friends and we all help each other out. I'd like to give them something that they can use "on demand".

I've decided that I'm going to give them cash or a prepaid credit card and provide it in a package with links to services they can use it for etc. My initial reason for not wanting to give cash was that, even though it is the most practical thing, was that I felt like it was a bit impersonal.
Hire them a maid perhaps?
