I can lend, no make that give you the $261.99 you are short if needed.

I would hate to see you miss out.

damn, thanks - not much of a saving now over buying from Dan's using Cashrewards and discounted WISH - might as well do so and ask them to price-match at collection to receive the extra $490.04 refund :)

How does this compare to Passion Pop which I can also afford?

    • you might be able to afford Passion Pop but could/would you drink the equivalent 600+ bottles of it? :)

      • 16yr old me says yes

Actually, $190 for the standard NV after the code is pretty decent http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Krug-Grand-Cuvee-Champagne-750ml/…. I've only had a glass of the Clos du Mesnil once, whilst at Krug in Reims, and frankly I enjoyed the NV just as much. I'm sure the d’Ambonnay is dang nice but more than 12 times better than the NV? Nah.

    • thanks - deal updated :)

I've only had a glass of the Clos du Mesnil once, whilst at Krug in Reims,

Its all the atmosphere: the beautiful countryside, the history, the architecture, the food …
You've just done the tour. They could have given you a glass of Passion Pop and it would have tasted great.

      • It is indeed a different world. I had to arrange the visit well in advance, and we were shown around by one of the members of the Krug family who told us that she always has a few bottles of the rosé in the fridge for barbecues or to have with take away Thai….. no doubt they get their wine at a decent discount….. sigh….

  • I've tried a glass of the 1998 and it was nice enough, but given 2000 is a theoretically weaker vintage I wouldn't be rushing to drop $3k on one.

  • Oh great now I can afford to do an Elton John and have a premium champagne bath

    Any Gossips equivalent?

Ah nice on it's own but add a generous splash of orange juice and it's perfect! ;-)

I know some people will mock the price of the Clos d'Ambonnay. But, honestly, you haven't lived until you use this stuff for a colonic irrigation. I feel richer just thinking about it.
