NBN HFC Modem Recommendations

Hey,

Ill be connecting to the HFC NBN shortly and keen to get a modem in the 100-250 price band. The house isnt overly big and really the modem will be used for streaming content/netflix etc - no gaming or anything too onerous.

There is so much mumbo jumbo out there and it's hard to nail down exactly what's required for HFC NBN.

Cheers

  • NBN supply modem for HFC, you plug in your own router.

Heaps of choice (assuming you don't want inbuilt VOIP):-
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/router

    TP-Link Archer C7
    TP-Link Archer C9
    NETGEAR R7000
    ASUS RT-AC68U
    etc

    • So is there no one device with Modem + Router combo - I need two actual devices taking up more space?

      • +2

Yes for NBN HFC you must use the NBN supplied modem and you add your own wireless etc router.

  • I know that you're not into separate devices but Ubiquiti EdgeRouter (Router) and Ubiquiti UniFi (Access Point) are absolutely rock solid and are practically commercial grade at a consumer price

  • Ended up buying the R7000 by netgear…$200 on ebay with free shipping from FUTU

    • I'm in this situation now, getting NBN HFC soon and deciding between the ASUS RT-AC68U and netgear R7000. Hows the R7000 holding up?

      • netgear is excellent tbh - only thing..the antennaes for whatever reason refuse to stay tight..so they just flop down after a day…small annoyance to an otherwise great router
