  • Methinks that list is sponsored. It smells funny and can't count right …

also "Laptopverge.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for website owners to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon (.com, .co.uk, .ca etc) and any other website that may be affiliated with Amazon Service LLC Associates Program."

Get what you need which sounds as though it will be determined by what you are programming or Programming and Coding because they are different and all.

Useless list. Best laptop for programming in 2017 Lenovo E550? That was released back in 2015? Yes as kywst said, it's nothing more than list of affiliate links and useless reviews.

  • I thought so. E550 Seriously!

  • what sort of programming? if anything unix, go with the mac.

    • Or the budget option - install linux. honestly you can do the entire course on linux.

      • what course?

        • oh nvm me thought OP was doing a programming course

I guess I'll take a stab, can't recommend any particular laptops but, if you were hoping to do an ios dev then I would guess macbook, other then that you should be alright with most windows laptops dual booted with a linux counterpart?

Honestly I'd look for certain features such as a nice to press keyboard, a full keyboard (with numpad), one with light up keys to program at night. One with the ctrl, alt, win keys and backspace delete keys are where you expect it to be. Also that your palm won't accidentally hit the trackpad easily. Make sure you have a strong semicolon button :p

Everything else really comes down to specs, and without knowing what you're programming, thats an open book really.

    • Yes, I can't recommend any but something with a good comfortable keyboard to type on and a decent screen that is IPS with a matte finish so it doesn't irritate the eyes with reflections of light. I read reviews lots of people like the Lenovo keyboards because of the key travel and aren't mushy like some others. But I would try some first at some stores before committing if its a big deal for you.

  • If you don't mind the weight get this and upgrade the hard drive and ram

    i3 cpu
    15" full hd screen
    upgradable ram and ssd
    backlit keyboard

It's the "little brother" of laptop number 9 in the list.

  • I have so far shortlisted these machines:

    1. Dell XPS 15
    2. Dell Precision 15
    3. Lenovo ThinkPad E570p

I do mostly visual studio 12/15/17 with services like SQL/SSRS. I use external monitor so I am happy with 1920 resolution without touch. May times, I work at client site so would prefer bit lighter than my current W510 with power brick.

Looks like Lenovo would be cheapest option…

    • Yes E570p would be the cheapest. The biggest drawback IMHO is that it has only one single HDMI for external monitor support.
