Anyone Have an OBD2 Adapter and Software for Ford BA I Can Borrow to Reset The Radio on My Wifes Car

I recently changed over the centre console on my wifes car as the display and controls were intermittently not working and now the radio comes up with CODE. It apparently needs a reset using something like Forscan, I am ordering an adapter but it will take up to 10 days. My wife is not happy as she has a long commute to work.

Anyone got one they are happy for me to use this w/e? Am in Melbourne

if it shows CODE, you need to get the radio code, using OBD2 will not reset it

    • You should have a little card with a security code on it. Probably in the vinyl folder in the glovebox with your user manual. Cause in the event that a thief might want to try to steal the awful factory radio in order to fence it for $5, they'd never think to also grab that!

The manual will have a guide on how to enter the security code.

  • As Tuzzi said, sounds more like a security feature. Check you manual, and the required code may be printed there. If not, you may have to call Ford to retrieve the code.

  • Thanks Guys, but on the falcon BA all the info I have seen says it needs a reset via OBD2

    • taxi base might do it for a beer

Seems really really odd that OBDII should be required to reset a radio. OBD is usually for things like engine, transmission, HVAC and braking systems.

"CODE" showing up on the face of the radio is usually indicates that the radio has been unpowered through battery disconnection or unplugging the unit, even a blown fuse. In the owners manual should be the radio section, or even a seperate book with how to enter this code. If you don't have this code or book because you bought the car second hand or lost it, if you go to a dealer and take proof of ownership, they may be able to access the Ford vehicle history (I don't know what Ford calls their version) and it will have details like that on there.

I have worked for plenty of different car dealers and some of those were Ford own car makers brands, but none of them have ever had to be or were able to be reset via OBDII. Not saying this isn't the case, just saying it is highly unlikely.

edit: Well… it seems that this goes all "inception" levels deep on the CODE front. It appears that the radio is connected by CAN bus to some other part of the car and possibly to the BCM. The radio queries the BCM and the ICE ecu and asks for and ID. If the ID matches, it starts up. If it fails this handshake, it just shuts down. One way it can work again is if the BCM and ICE ecu is told to accept the new handshake…

Things to check in this case is that every cable is pushed back into the radio. Did you replace the radio or just unplug it? And chances are, that even if you get an OBDII adaptor, it won't be just a simple plug and clear thing. I know from other cars that they use the OBDII port but different pins and a specific plug…

    • The entire unit was changed out and BCM was changed over to allow engine to start etc. however radio needs to be reset. Definitely doable with the correct software, see Forscan.

      • Ahhh, well that moves the goal posts a little. Yes, if the head unit and BCM were changed and they talk to each other, it sounds like that is the only way to get it all working again.

Alternative while you wait, buy a Bluetooth speaker and put it in her car and jam some tunes on her phone. Car works and she will have some sweet tunes to drive with. :D
