Best Accomodation in Sydney to See Vivid

Hello I am thinking of taking the young teens to see VIVID.. was thinking of staying a night in Sydney.. doesnt have to be darling harbour but if there was a chance of seeing some of the lights from where we stay that would be great. Any suggestions thank u

Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Intercontinental with Quay facing room higher up will see a some too, but def Park Hyatt if you want best view, but note you pay for the 5 stars and location!

  • Thank u will check them out ☺

Not sure without knowing your budget but if you are looking for the cheaper end of the scale, take a look at the YHA in The Rocks. Haven't stayed their personally but their website mentions Vivid, views, and Family Rooms. So it seems to tick all your boxes.

    • Yeh budget is low so not really wanting to have a big expense. I will check that out to ☺ thank u

  • Was also wondering about an Airbnb but do not know what suburbs to look at ☺

don't want to sound negative but vivid is good for 2hrs, save the money from the hotel for the vivid view and enjoy it on other entertainment as well, I would book a hotel around central station if you plan to hang around the city all walking distance, darling harbour 10min, circular quay 20min, Broadway 5min, Surry hills or Oxford st 10min, Chinatown 5min.

    • Yes I was going to say just stay someone else cheaper and just travel or walk in and check it out on foot. Much better closer up from ground.

Unless it was that shit fight last year trying to get to/from the cathedral of light…really poor (read: none) crowd control…hopefully they fix it that this year.

        • Yeah nah that's not gonna happen.

I dread the Vivid crowd every year …

  • Mmm maybe avoiding the crowds would be a better idea thank u

We went on the weekend and the crowd control and flow this year is much better than last year. We have a 7 year old, and started at Circular Quay at 6pm, then walked the Royal Botanical Gardens, Martin Place, The Rocks and Barangaroo. We finished at Barangaroo around 11pm. Walking it is much better and allows you to get to all the interactive stuff. We stayed in the city, and it was well worth it, cause at 11pm, its late to be trying to get a 7 year old on a train then home. I would thoroughly recommend it this year and say it is well worth it. No need to stay close to the Vivid precincts - we stayed at central where it is much cheaper, and caught the train to Circular Quay before 6 (trains dont stop at Circular Quay station between 6 and 11pm) and then back to central station from Wynyard at the end.

We only did Circular Quay, the rocks and RBG on Saturday. Agree it appeared crowd control seemed better than last year, but it was also less crowded in general.

The installations and lights (eg Opera House and MCA) I feel aren't as good as previous years. Also missing Customs House, which is usually the best one. Customs House 2012 was the best I've seen!

  • What if YHA ?

  • You should be sleeping rough to be carbon neutral.
