PSA - Citibank Wouldn't Do a Cheque to Self for Balance Transfer

Hi All,

I know a lot of people are fond of Citibank's Cheque to self payment option when taking out a Balance Transfer.

I've previously done this with Citibank, however today when I tried they said they'd only do it via B-Pay to another Credit Card (yes I know you could then do cash transfer from an overpaid account).

I didn't push for cheque to self, but thought others may like to know that this mightn't be an option any more.

  • What did they offer you in terms of a BT?

    • 6 months 0% - no fee.

  • Just did successfully last week. Did you try speaking with another person?

    • You did? Recently? Are you new customer? And was it free interest for xx months and no BT fees?

      • New customer and 1.5% one off fee with BT for 24 months @0%.

    • No, I wasn't really pushing for it. It was offered as I tried to close the account.

  • Many people including me on whirlpool never received such offer anymore. I am more than 8 years customer, and have got 3 or 4 times free interest balance transfers for 12/24 months with no fee in the past. And all with cheque to self.
But never get it anymore since 2016…
