Got a $1000 Kathmandu Gift Card as a Wedding Gift recently! How Do I Sell It?

Me and my wife got married in the States recently and we got a $1000 e gift card as a gift from my sister and brother in law (who live in the States) for Kathmandu (dont ask me why we got offered a $1000 card for Kathmandu, as we are still stumped even though we had listed JB hifi and Harvey Norman on our wedding website)

Can anyone recommend how we could sell them for cash? To be honest, we both are unsure what to spend the $1000 on at Kathmandu?

It would be going to waste in a years time as it has only one year validity.

Any recommendations on how to sell this would be welcome.

Thanks

  • Trade it back to them and ask for less in cash, say $800 or $900?

PS: You say offered? Do you really mean given?

    • Changed the wording mate. It was given to us as a gift.

Risky to sell it in such a large amount unless its to someone you know

See if you can swap it for smaller quantities like 10 $100 cards and sell them on ebay for like $80-90 each or give them out as gifts for birthdays or as thankyous for the wedding - bridal party , grooms party etc .

Maybe they're trying to say that you need to get outdoors more often.

We figured that would be the case. Me and my partner, we travel a lot. But we still cannot figure out what to spend a $1000 e gift at Kathmandu! I can't remember the last time we bought anything worthwhile at Kathmandu!

The micro fleece jumpers are very good but only worth it when on sale. Can't say I've bought much else. Maybe some ski gear as winter is on it's way?

Shouldn't be hard to spend $1000 at their prices. What's that get you- two good Goretex jackets?

Hell no- $630 for one of these beauties, for members- heavily discounted from $900. Ok, so that's one jacket for him and a few pairs of socks for you- $1000 spend, sorted.

        • When the sales are on you can get some decent priced stuff - but it will take some effort for $1000 worth in a year. I would be going back to Katmandu and seeing whether they will let you cash this out. See if you can get the original receipt.

As people have said the microfleece stuff is good, the cargo pants are pretty good, the backpacks are reasonable and the thermal gear is useful for Melbourne winters. If you do decide to use it make sure you sign up for the Katmandu club as well.

I really hate gift cards as they are completely useless. They all the thoughtlessness of cash whilst tying you down to a particular store. Personally I just give people cash and tell them it is a universal gift card.

  • ill buy from you $50

    • I'll pay $100

      • I should start a bid war then between ya both! may the best person win

        • I can give you $3.50

@Baebs: Ill take it! and I would have $1003.50

  • Maybe try gumtree and give a discount but meet them at ur local Kathmandu store. Safer transaction for both parties.

  • This site has classified but $1000 is hard to break up if you don't have individual gift cards. Maybe can you buy 10 x Kathmandu gift cards with it or exchange?

Wait can you buy something worth $1000 at Kathmandu then get a refund?

    • Unfortunately with refunds : "If you return a purchase made by gift card, we will give you a replacement gift card or credit note to the value of the purchased item."

I might have to try to break them into 10 x vouchers of $100 if I can

Shops love gift cards. "As gift cards are classed as financial products they are not covered by the return, repair and refund guarantee under Australian Consumer Law." The expiring gift card is a big swindle.

  • $1000 Kathmandu dollars like like $250 aliexpress dollars. They resell that stuff for high mark ups..

Chinese wedding customs is the best, everyone gives cold hard cash!

    • But there's a price that everyone should pay when they attend weddings. You even need to pay when you receive an invition but decided not to go. To me I think it's a pressure and the amount should be flexible to the person's financial status and relationship to the bride. But unfortunately it doesn't work that way in Chinese culture

      • You have to pay when you don't go: ha ha ha ha: inscrutable.

        • Don't laugh. That's true. That's a standard price : ~ $60 if you don't go and ~$100 if you go. But these prices are in the old times. Now the standard prices are even more. There're criticisms that people just give invitation out just for the sake of $$$ even they're not close to the person (eg. colleagues of another department that you probably only 1-2times with them).

  • Best to just spend it online. $1,000 isn't that much. That's just two jackets.

  • Are you selling any of your gift cards? I’d like to buy some.
