Drinks at Lui Bar at Rialto Tower! Free entry but sometimes you need to wait a while at peak times, and dress smartly. You just ask at reception at the bottom of the tower and wait for someone to take you up. The view is incredible, you can see all over Melbourne, and I think of it as an upmarket version of going to to Eureka Tower. The drinks are expensive but STRONG and delicious - works of art ($20-$25 a cocktail), but just get one and sip on it for a few hours. I think of it as $20 for an incredible view, and it comes with a drink! I always take my friends travelling from interstate/overseas here and they love it. http://www.luibar.com.au/

Also, you can see cute penguins in St Kilda for free http://stkildapenguins.com.au/skp/?page_id=93 just after sunset then go out to eat/drink in one of the many great bars/restaurants in St Kilda.

And like inherentchoice said, Great Ocean Road is fantastic if you can get down there. Go for a hike somewhere in the beautiful Otways, see the Cockatoos in Lorne, and the Koalas in Kennett River, all free.

Williamstown is a gorgeous old seaside town 20 mins out of Melbourne. You can catch the ferry straight across from the city (or the train, but the ferry is much nicer) and sit on the pier with some fish and chips watching the sailing races, or if you guys are into it, go snorkelling at Jawbone Marine Sanctuary.

There are some great arthouse cinemas around Melbourne including the Sun Theatre in Yarraville, the Jam Factory, and another in Carlton that I can't remember the name of. Hope that helps
