Affordable Perfume Ideas for Girlfriend?

Hi all - I know perfume is a very individual/personal choice ( Everyone has different tastes etc).
I'm after ideas for what perfume to get my girlfriend (mid 20's). I'm just after a "generic"/"can't go wrong" choice, that won't break the bank.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Unless you really know what she wants - I'd say avoid perfume at all costs. I know it's a nice thing to buy but it's such a hard thing to purchase for, and may put pressure on her to wear something she doesn't like for a long, long time. If there's anything else she might like - go for that. Sorry I couldn't help.

Everyone has different tastes etc…"generic"/"can't go wrong
these two statements says it all doesnt it?

you cant get a generic cant go wrong because everyone has different tastes
ie most people like….means that some people do not like

Also depends on body chemistry; what smells good on one person won't necessarily smell good on the next person

      • Yep, I adore Marc Jacobs Daisy in the bottle but after about 10 mins on me it is NOT nice at all :(

Spray n Wipe? The pine scented one.
    Can't beat the price/volume combination.

Juicy Couture, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, V&R (Bon Bon is very pretty bottle)- all trendy brands for 20s female. Don't get celebrity perfumes, unless she's a big fan of theirs. Also avoid grandma perfumes, if the perfume isn't sold at Myer/David Jones, it's most likely old discontinued grandma stock. If found at Myer/DJ, buy it at CW or Priceline.

Really hard to give you any meaningful feedback in lieu of almost any info from your end.

I'd say what are the fragrances she currently has and really loves? As you hit the nail on the head that it's a very individual thing and whilst it may be a fantastic scent it just might be something she hates.

As the first poster said, perhaps try something non-fragrance related unless you can provide more info. If you know what is her GO TO fragrance (most people have one amongst the several they own) then we can recommend something of a similar ilk.

PS. Not that I'm trying to tell you how much to spend BUT I'd caution against going cheap…..for under $130 or so you can get her something REALLY good that'll be used for many years - pro rata that out and it'll be money very well spent vs a $40 Calvin Klein yuck.

PPS. FWIW this is an excellent site for getting a handle on various fragrances - you can sort by various fields to get the ones with the highest user ratings etc:
    https://www.fragrantica.com/search/

Personally my recommendations would be anything from the Dior Miss Dior range (is very highly rated and a bit of an allrounder) - I recently bouhgt for my wife as she likes the Floral Chypre style scents - also grabbed her some Shalimar (which is a very underrated classic, first formulated in the same year as Chanel #5).

Just be heads up as to the relatives strengths of various fragrance types e.g Parfum vs Eau de Parfum vs Eau de Toilette etc - and we aware of fakes (ebay sales that look too good to be true!).

If you could determine whether she likes floral or fruity or oriental fragrances it would help.

Anyway, under no circumstances go cheap and buy anything with the words Britney, Mariah, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kardashian, Taylor Swift etc etc written on it.

My wife likes the smell of my armpit.

Also something by Britney. Not sure if there's a similarity.

          You have evolved!

  • Can't go wrong with Chloe Signature EDP but it's a bit pricey …

  • My wife loves these natural perfumes http://vanessamegan.com/natural-perfume/

She gets a lot of comments about the scent and I much prefer it to the smell of perfume full of artificial fragrances.

  • Sigh…….you've got to 'love' OP's who post up asking total strangers for help…..then when aforementioned total strangers offer this saying they need some basic info from the OP to do this the OP can't be bothered.

Ain't unique to this post but c'mon folks as the line from Jerry Maguire says,"Help me, Help you!" :-/

  • can't go wrong with no5.

Dunno - I think you;ll find whilst it's an absolute classic that it's somewhat polarising, it's really pretty bold and overwhelming - also certainly one of the most expensive non-artisan fragrances. It's also very common - so in the average office on any given day you'll prolly have a bunch of other folks wearing the same scent.

Anyway I think we're wasting our time I've a feeling the OP went with one of those "If you liked Dior's Poison then you'll love our version" uber cheap replica fragrance or definitely something by a 3rd tier Celeb e.g Nikki Minaj.

  • I assume she likes perfume then?? Personally, it makes me sneeze terribly, makes my eyes water and I avoid it at all costs and couldn't imagine a worse present.

Affordable and Girlfriend are mutually exclusive statements, this question makes no sense….

  • Give her a gift voucher, she'd love that. :)

    • +1

My wife would disagree. She would want me to know what she likes and take the time and effort to buy it. Gift voucher could be seen as lazy/impersonal.

      • I know! My brother's partner gets very cross with them when someone does it.

  • Air wick vanilla

  • Go to Chemist Warehouse.
Hundreds of perfumes selling dirt cheap

  • Go with the mini Marc Jacobs perfumes there's four in a set
