Porting Vodafone to Vodafone

Hi, I am currently on Vodafone and am thinking of porting to Kogan's $4.90 30 day deal (Vodafone reseller).
Has anyone had experiences porting between Vodafone and a Vodafone reseller? I am concerned about my number getting lost.
I know Optus to Optus takes about 3 days.

Thanks.

  • 3 Days is long!

Its usually a few hours at the most. Vodafone to vodafone reseller should take less but they always say a few hours

" Transferring your existing number to Kogan Mobile will usually be completed within 3 business hours unless it is a Sunday or public holiday."

EDIT: I just thought I'd let you know later. I'm actually porting from Optus to Kogan as I type this. But during the porting your phone number is still active with the other mobile provider. When it becomes inactive thats when you know and you can stick in the kogan SIM

    • I can say it took 20 mins for me. I'm on Vodafone network (Kogan) now as of 3.05pm from Optus.

  • Yeah porting will only take a couple of hours at most. When i ported it last, it didnt even take 15 minutes to activate (optus). You wont have any issues porting from Vodafone to Vodafone cause it will be porting it to a new SIM card which will be associated with kogan

Doesn't say or specify any provider so better assume for all providers other than Kogan.

  • Thanks! Sounds like it is not too much of a hassle unlike Optus to Optus.

  • You wont have any issues, my only suggestion is do it va their call centre (if thats possible)
Kogan's back end stuff is actually managed by a team within Voda (part of their agreement) so just call the kogan customer service number to port the number.
Should port within around 20-30 minutes usually.
if you are worried, port out to Optus $2 sim or something an port back in.

    • Would calling Kogan be better than requesting activation online?

  • I just ported a friend's voda to kogan and only took like 1 hour. When upgrading to the yearly plan you can minmise the cost further with cheaper kogan gift cards.

  • I do suggest you consider Kogan Mobile carefully. I experienced a horrible service. Cost me 9 days to port and yet I port to Optus. However, even worst thing is Kogan Mobile seems locked me on their network. So, now when I want to transfer my number from Optus to Lebara ( both Kogan and Lebara on Vodafone network), Lebara can not transfer my number. Because Kogan Mobile claim my number is activated on them and porting request then come to Kogan Mobile, and actually, they do not hold my number, so the request been rejected. Now I spend 7 days, the porting to Lebara request have not been done.
I believe if you do not want any trouble, then think other SP, not Kogan Mobile. seriously!!

    • That's terrible! Did your original kogan to Optus port end up going through?

    • How and why did Kogan claim your number is with them? Did you use them previously?

I know tons of people using and porting to Kogan with no problem.
