Singapore Air Krisflyer Redemption Flight to New Zealand Help

Hi all,

I'm looking for a redemption flight from Adelaide to either Christchurch or Queenstown (ending up in Wanaka). I know NZ redemption's cant be booked on line, so tried ringing the Krisflyer call centre.

I said Departing anywhere from 11th-14th July and Returning any day from 18th-20th July. Ideally departing Adelaide, but happy to book a redemption from SYD, MEL, BRIS if I have to, and then book a connecting flight from Adelaide separate.

I found them really difficult to communicate with and couldn't get them to understand this request. I tried calling back 3 seperate times, but they were all pretty much the same. Two said no flights.

The 3rd said there was 1 redemption available from Sydney (and I think she said all premium Economy only - but used different words), and 7 available for the return, but I couldn't understand how many points, or tax costs? (she said 25000pts,but no idea where from to).

Has anyone booked these before? and can give me any tips? ie, can I even get a redemption from Adelaide? Is there an email address that you can write to instead of the call centre as after over an hr I've still got no idea!

Cheers all

  • You can transfer you Krisflyer points to Virgin(at a loss). If all else fails this may be your best choice if you won't be flying through Singapore before they expire.

    • Thanks. But all my points are currently with velocity and I would need to transfer to KF. I just thought KF offered the best value product to NZ?

      • You can book Air NZ flights through Velocity over the phone. You may be correct that KF is the best value but if there isn't any flights it probably doesn't matter too much.

You can book mixed VA/Air NZ flights online, considering you're flying from ADL you'll most likely need a stopover anyway?

        • How do you transfer Krisflyer points to Virgin Velocity Points?
Also does anyone know if Lufthansa Miles and More points can be transferred to anything usable in Australia?

          @maxi:

For Miles and More, I don't think you'll be able to use them on a domestic flight but can book with Cathay, Singapore Air or Air NZ.

It makes it a lot easier if you find your own flight availability.

Go to united.com and search for flights on Air NZ (tick "search for award travel"). What shows up on united.com is in theory what Krisflyer can book for you. I already had a look and there's no availability on the Adelaide to Auckland flight in July so you will have to depart from another city.

The Krisflyer award chart says it costs 25,000 miles (plus surcharges) for a round trip Australia to NZ trip in economy.

    • Cheers bandana, very helpful alround!
Does the site only show direct flights? Ie there are no flights from Adelaide to Christchurch via Melb/syd?

      • Krisflyer also allows award bookings on Virgin Australia. It is 36,000 Krisflyer miles roundtrip from Adelaide to NZ in economy. Search for available award flights on Virgin's website.

Note that you cannot mix Air NZ and Virgin. Well I guess you can but it will cost you more miles because Krisflyer uses a separate award chart for Virgin and Air NZ.

        • I didn't have any luck using the United.com search engine for later dates to Auckland either. Says to call their call centre. Would prefer to use points for higher class fare, but 36k points (taxes?) to Zqn return would be ok…Unless they are 15-26hr flights that United were showing up. I'll have to jump on velocity site.

Alternate seems to be flying Emirates return for $580,or jetstar about the same once baggage is added.

    • Pretty sure United doesn't show SQ availability online, you have to call United's call centre to check.

Also SQ only release limited reward seats to their partner airlines.

I think calling the SQ call centre until you get someone useful is a good option.

      • I was getting nowhere over the phone. Tried 9am, 2pm and midnight. All the same. I saw a krisflyer promo email. Might try that, and or just stick with velocity.

  • I can't see that SQ actually flys ADL-CHC (unless you want to go via Singapore). Have never redeemed with them, but maybe they only allow you to book SQ reward flights?

Virgin has reward seat availability for the dates, so I would snap that up given your points are already with them.

    • Would a virgin booking potentially yield a airnz plane?

Yes. They are partners so equally likely you'll get an airnz plane; you'll have the option after you search. Of course, this is for paid fares - award availability on airnz is usually notoriously hard to find, although the number of flights across the ditch might mean greater availability. You may need to transit thru mel/syd tho.
