Garage Not Returning My Car

On 19th Feb I had an accident and left my car at car body repair garage. Claim got approved and garage was given ahead within 3 weeks time. Car is with them since then and regularly I am following but manager says 2 more week every time. They have give me courtesy car from third party which will be claiming rental from fault party's insurance.

I am very worried that I am going no where and might incur big bill if other person's insurance decline this car rental's claim however I was given assurance that this car wont cost me any thing. Plus I was my car back its already been more then 3 months.

This is all new to me and no idea where to complain or ask for help ? Can someone please point me to correct direction ?

thanks in advance

Talk to you insurance and let them know it's taking a long time, they might give the repairer a hurry up.

  • What got smashed on it? Some things take a long time to repair (my wife had a car in the shop for about 2 months for extensive repairs a while back), and the repair shop won't be able to repair everything - they subcontract that work out - which is of course a slow process.

A lot of them take on so much work with not enough staff it takes them a month or so just to start your job.

As already mentioned talk to your insurance company about it

  • Dont know what your car is but parts arrival for some brands can take a while. Euro cars especially, some Koreans, china and grey imports.

  • Three months is almost to the point of being a joke. Only your insurance can fix the issue though.

A word of advice, if the damage was extensive (e.g. chassis rails were bent or it was a line ball decision if they wrote the car off or repaired it) I wouldn't trust the safety of that vehicle and wouldn't want my family in it if it were involved in a second accident.

  • Thanks for your replies guys. I will be giving call to Insurance. Meanwhile I was wondering if I can approach fair trading or consumer affairs to get help in sorting this out. What I am really worried is, I might end up paying rent for the courtesy car given to me. any thoughts on that please.
