Orthodontist Recommendation in Perth

Hi guys

So I have been quite blessed with a jaw with an overbite of 2cm along with some other over crowding of teeth. Because of this,I have unsuccessfully over the years tried to get them fixed a number of times.

The problem is that the orthodontist that I have been to a couple of times keeps telling me that the best way to proceed is to get a maxiofacial surgery + orthodontic treatment which will run me about $20k. I have also been to 2 maxiofacial surgeons and both of them want more than $10k to do the surgery.

So, do you guys have any recommendations for any orthodontists or maxiofacial surgeons that are more affordable in Perth? Or any way of getting this whole thing done on the cheap.

Edit: Also has anyone used smile.com.au for orthodontists? Are there any waiting periods?

Book a holiday to thailand go to one of the best dentist surgeons in the country pay half the price of australian detists. then enjoy a nice holiday afterwards.

    • Orthodontic work takes months, or years to complete, and requires regular check-ups/adjustments…etc. You can't do it as a one-off holiday trip.

Sorry I don't have any recommendations. You case sounds quite complicated, so do not go overseas as orthodontic treatment requires following up. I have two kids with braces and is not cheap……but it needs to be done. All orthodontist offer an initial payment and then monthly interest free usually.

  • Are they Orthodontists at Smile.com.au? Some dentists do braces, but they aren't orthodontists. It's a bit like a GP doing an operation on you instead of a specialist. I know when our daughter needed braces, the local dentist wanted to do them, but we got a second opinion from an orthodontist and went with him. The treatment plan was different and did fix the problems. When I spoke to the health insurance regarding what refund we would get, they asked were the braces being done with a dentist or orthodontist, because they gave a higher rebate for an orthodontist doing the work. Why not try a University clinic where they are training post graduate dentists to become orthodontists? At least they will know more than a dentist and they are under the supervision of an orthodontist/Professor. Good luck

    • Yeah I have looked into that option and I know that the oral health centre run by UWA does that but the problem is that only people with health care cards can get treatment there.

  • I have also been to 2 maxiofacial surgeons and both of them want more than $10k to do the surgery.

I would've thought that this type of surgery is covered by private health insurance … if you don't have it, you might be able to get it and wait ~12months so pre-existing condition exclusion doesn't apply.

Have you asked about doing the procedure as a public patient in a public hospital - not sure what the waiting lists are like … might be around 12 months as well.
