Offline Navigation + Nokia 640 Maps (Win 10) ?

As title suggest nokia 640 (win 10) for maps offline navigation

Is it good enough for offline navigation in a car or in cycle? Any body has experiences with location without connecting to internet. I read on forum but was not clear whether it do need to connect to internet occasionally for location ping ( not sure it is for hour or longer)

If it needs to connect to data what is the cheapest plan for a year and generally how much it consumes data.

I do have my nexus 5 want to dedicate the nokia phone for navigation only..

any suggestions.

thanks

Not sure this come under Automotive or Mobile section.

  • waze works well with offline maps.

  • I love Microsoft Maps with my 640 XL, before was a struggle walking without a compass in the 625.

Also, can we agree Windows mobile is the best OS?

Thanks captobvious. I will check with waze. I see very few ratings for the app so thought its not good. I will download and install.

savas.. I don't call any os as best OS. Personally i liked webos but rest are all same.

Win 10 is good and I liked it along with nexus 5. For me the cheaper and good features is better as any damage I dont need to spend $$$ lot.

so it doesn't require internet occasionally also. Then can i connect in flight mode to preserve battery while cycling and also any good cycling app to track the distance?

I have Win 10 mobile on my 640 and use MS maps. I have an old sim in it to make sure it doesn't use data. I have a "bucket" of old sims of all sizes. I load the maps via wifi.

If you need a dummy sim just wander into Colesworths and buy a $2 Amaysim sim. They have breakouts to fit all sizes. You just don't register it for service. Caution: that would need an Optus locked or an unlocked phone.
