Wool vs Down Quilts and Where to Buy

My house is not well insulated and I've recently started waking up in the middle of the night from the cold.

What are the pros and cons of wool vs down quilts?

And are there any good sales on at the moment?

Thanks!

  • Different people are going to prefer different things.
Have you tried Googling to read up on the basic differences yet?
You'll probably need this basic knowledge of the differences if you want to try understand everyone's opinions.

Correct. If you prefer to traumatise sheep with mulesing then get wool. If you prefer to traumatise geese by plucking them alive for their entire lives then get down. Image search "mulesing" or "down geese" to make your decision easier / more informed. There are plenty of alternatives to both if you care to avoid them.

  • Check out the Sheridan Outlet online.

The wool quilts will be warmer than the polyester ones. The duck down quilts will also be warm.

You will need a quilt cover as well.

    You're welcome.

I've never had a wool quilt. I have had several down quilts and they are wonderful. Light and warm. Get yourself one with a good down/feather rating. Ours is 90%down/10%feather. I also would get the channel ones because you can brush the filling down to the bottom when the weather is a bit warmer.

  • Some wool quilts can be washed and tumble dried. I think that is often more difficult with a down quilt.
    Some people like electric blankets.
