Anyone Work for Australia Post? ... Empty Parcel Received!

I received a parcel today (prepaid 500g red bag) which was addressed not to me, but to "Residence" and my address below printed on a sticky label and stuck onto the bag. There is no sender's address written on the back, but on the front someone has signed the "dangerous goods" line.

Inside the bag is a piece of bubble wrap and two pieces of cardboard. That is all.

Is this some kind of random Aus Post parcel test to see how long a parcel takes from A to B?

Anyone else get a parcel like this??

Some kind of scam??

    Someone sent you a fart.

    Was the bag open?

  • Were you expecting a parcel? Was it registered post?

Maybe someone trying to case your joint? Like to see how long it sits there unattended during the day?

    Any white powder?

    At least it wasn't headphones…

    look up the tracking

Well when you order piece of bubble wrap and two pieces of cardboard then you get piece of bubble wrap and two pieces of cardboard.

  • I think 'Gustave' may be on the right track.
Maybe have a casual chat over the counter with the police to see if it has happened to others.
Pretty odd someone paying for postage & not knowing the recipients name.

Weird shi* happens to everybody. Me and my friends once got chased by an angry hippee in a VW Combi, from a distant country region, who left a hippee trinket on my front gate before we even got home. Weeerd but kind of exhilerating. :-/

NOT a random Aus Post parcel test.

  • Some kind of scam??

It sounds like an inr scam. Sell something expensive and ship something that isn't.

Someone who wants a tracking number showing delivery to your suburb? Maybe someone else is the person being scammed.

    • Hah, never thought of this… Could be it

    • Maybe OP can do an RTS "Return to Sender" so that it shows up on the tracking history for any potential claims.

Is it high grade European corrugated cardboard?

I ordered 2 pieces of cardboard urgently but they still haven't arrived. Just wondering if you received my cardboard by mistake.

  • Aus Post runs large scale performance monitoring, but this uses a large panel of known recruits sending to designated recipients.

If the parcel had tracking it sounds like someone else in your suburb is being scammed. By signing for the item the scammer can claim the recipient received the item.

    Thanks all.

Yes I looked up the tracking, it's from a suburb near Melbourne. Not expecting anything from there.

I order stuff online a lot but I'm not missing any parcels, and they always would have my name on it.

My Daiko headphones have already arrived, so no not I'm not expecting another delivery.

I thought about the whole stalking / checking for dwelling but can only think that this info would be useful for some larger thieving network where the person in Melbourne tells a person in Adelaide the house is empty.

I order my methane gas from premium upmarket services with personal delivery from uberFarts, so definitely not.

If it's a scam, I assume the sender can claim mail insurance or something?

  • That is very odd. If my mail is stolen and left empty, that would be why.
