Anyone sold/bought/used a domestic flight in wrong name?

I have a return Sydney to Perth flight in a few months i can't use anymore.

Was wondering whether anyone has been brave enough to sell, buy or use a domestic flight in someone else's name? What was your experience?

It's a tiger flight so name changes cost $4 trillion dollars and aren't worth it.

90% of me knows i should just forfeit the ticket but the OBer in me can't help but wonder.

  • When I've used Jetstar I don't think they even checked if I'm the person on the ticket.

  • I've illegally used one I got for free. They do (rarely) have random inspections at times from what I've read so it can be stressful if you're not a gambler or career criminal (I'm not, sadly). I'm going to sleep now but unless rules have changed the ticket is pretty much now worthless by design.

We've had a discussion on OzBargain in the past about a fairer system to balance scalping vs airline exploitation but I don't remember the conclusion.

I'd probably happily buy a (domestic) ticket in someone's elses name if it suited me and was cheap! I've never seen them check.

  • I gave a friend my ff card which they used to check in at self service. Was not checked by airline staff. So yes its possible just dont get caught

Used a number of times. Also gave one with my name on it to someone once.

I've never sold one simply because there is a chance that they wont get on the plane.. Its also illegal to fly under a false name.

  • "sell it" cheap with payment due after the flight.
Heavily relies on honesty from the recipient of course, but its the only way everyone wins.
