Upgrading The PSU of HP Z420?

I am running a GTX Titan with the current PSU and would like to install another Titan to do SLI. But the PSU needs to be upgraded, I am looking for 850W with at least 2×6-pin and 2×8-pin PCI-e connector.

Problem is, HP uses a proprietary 18-pin power connector to Motherboard for Z420, whereas industry standard is 24-pin. I can overcome this by using some aftermarket 24-pin to 18-pin adapter

Can I upgrade the PSU by buying a standard ATX PSU or something else?
Will a standard ATX PSU fit the cage inside the case?

I've seen people use normal ATX PSUs with homemade adapters on HP Z400 mobos but it was with a custom case.
