Amazon.com Banned Me from Reviews

Will be straight to the point. Back in February, I posted this review to Amazon:

A few weeks ago, I noticed it had disappeared, along with the rest of my reviews. What followed was this e-mail exchange:

Jabba:
I just noticed all my product reviews appear to have disappeared from Amazon.com. I had about 5 reviews of miscellaneous products from 2012 to 2017. Could you please look into this and let me know the reason? Thanks.

Review Moderator Amazon.com:
You have failed to comply with our policies by manipulating product reviews. As a result, you may no longer post reviews on Amazon.com, and your reviews have been suppressed. Any new reviews written will automatically be suppressed. To learn more about this policy, please see our Customer Review Creation Guidelines (http://www.amazon.com/review-guidelines).

I'm puzzled. The review above is my only recent activity - the other four reviews are from 2012-2015 and pretty unremarkable. I only have the one Amazon account (dating back to 2006) and rarely vote or comment on reviews. Mainly, I just spend money…

Nothing new. I stayed in the worst hotel in the world in Devonport, Tasmania when I caught the Spirit down there. It was not cheap and it was basically a hostel pretending to be a hotel. I had to barricade my doors at night, it was that bad. Anyway, I put a negative review on hotels.com and they refused to put it up. It was realistic, without being over the top. I contacted them many times, so that other tourists didn't experience what I did, but it went nowhere. The hotel still had a 4/5 star rating on their system. I don't trust reviews on sites that are trying to sell you the product.

    • Hotels.com makes money when you book rooms, I'm surprised you took the site seriously before that with such a conflict of interest with bad reviews.

Almost all online reviews are bogus and created to sell your attention or products/services.

Hmmm, the first line talking about another brand might be the problem. It might be against the rules to discuss another brand so prominently in a review, as that might be seen as advertising. It's not a huge deal, but I can sorta see why they crack down on stuff like that in reviews, as many reviews were becomng infomercials.

    • Maybe, if that's an issue, but it doesn't seem like a plausible basis for the sudden deletion of all reviews and permanent ban. It's pretty routine for Amazon reviews to mention brands, and mine does it far more benignly than, say, this one, which basically says "this Startech dock sucks - go check out this Vantec one I've linked".

Unfortunately, Amazon hasn't responded to my request to review the decision or provide more details.
