Stacking Washer and Dryer?

Hi looking to get some advice.

I currently have a front loader washer. The partner wants to get a dryer for winter and colder months. The laundry area is quite small and the only feasible option seems to be stacking. What do I need to know here?

The washer model is WW75H5240EW/SA. The dimensions are W600 x H850 x D600. I'm not sure on stacking and specs etc. Can't find anything in the manual. It obviously supports it because it has that recessed top. Anyway, from my research it seems you can get stacking kits and mats. Seems like mats are the best option.

Just in theory, would something like this fit? It's stackable and fits within the washer size dimensions.

Any other tips?

Bolt it to the wall above the washer and leave a good space between for a washing basket.

    • Some are too heavy to attach to a wall. If units are stackable, they will generally have a connector mechanism you put between them.

Double check before buying. The last thing you want is some crappy DIY that will negate your warranty and insurance.

More info on stacking kits here. Worth noting that vented dryers are typically very light, whereas other types (condenser/heat pump) might be too heavy.

We've just stacked our vented dryer upside down on top of our washing machine with this mat. Been like that for 3 years, no issues at all. It is upside down is so that there's maximum surface area in contact with the mat on both sides, rather than just the 4 tiny feet of the dryer.

    • Cheers mate. So I assume they're different brands? I'm sure if I got another Samsung it'd be fine. I just don't want to be tied down to a particular brand. Can the feet not be removed on most dryers? So you just have it sitting level directly on top, no bracket or bolts? Don't think I'd be allowed to bolt into the walls as I'm renting.

Edit: just contacted Samsung and the washing machine supports stacking. They say to use their proprietary stacking kits though of coarse.

      • So the full set up is as follows:
        * Boston Anti Vibration Pads under washing machine feet
        * Smeg washing machine
        * Easy Living Washer/Dryer Rubber Non Slip Mat
        * Fisher & Paykel dryer upside down (you want it upside down for the reason above and also so you can easily reach the controls)

Mrs placed a plastic tub on top of the dryer and it got spat off during a wash cycle and broke; dryer didn't move a millimeter (hasn't in 3 years).

  • If your current washer isnt made for stacking then the internal frame will not be built to handle the extra weight plus added vibration.

    Picture of my dryer stand.
This is the stand i tried to show you before but there website is infected or something.

  • We have our washer and dryer side by side on top of a shelf with sorting baskets underneath. We also have a pull out sorting table underneath them so we can take out of the washer, slide across to dryer. Works very well but you need a well built shelf.
