  • Just use the TV as your computer's monitor.

Buy an Xbox 360, but the internet sounds like a limiting factor

To add to that, make sure it's the "S" or "E" model (newer ones) as they have wi-fi built in. The original ones required a separate adapter and they don't go for cheap either.

if you have a HDMI port on your TV get a lappy with HDMI out and grab a wireless keyboard with intergrated mouse like the logitech k400r then away you go…..

or you can get netflix on your smart phone, purchase a chrome cast and cast your device to the HDMI port on the TV and stream netflix from your mobile via wifi…..

purchase a second hand PS3 then install the netflix app via the playstation store, after that just run the app and away you go (i think this would be the easiest way and my 5 year old can work the ps3 now.

there are a million ways you can do it but what is easiest for you is something you have to figure out.

you will either need a USB port it HDMI port to make it into smart TV
USB can use chrome tv / Apple TV /PlayStation / Xbox
HDMI can use your existing laptop

10 years old there is a fair chance it does not have HDMI port.
so, first - what is the model number of the Panasonic - we need to establish what inputs it has.
Without HDMI input it requires quite an alternative solution, but still possible.

I have a 2005 built 42 inch plasma and has a hdmi port.

Going strong but only is 720p/ 1080i.

Still good for the man cave.

I'm still using my big old Pana 50' plasma. It would have to be around 10 years old and still going strong.
We have a Chromecast plugged into a receiver and run that into the Panasonic.
    Works just fine.

  • Chromecast
    Android TV Box
    Apple TV
    Xbox/Playstation
    Smart Blu Ray Player?

There are heaps of options available.
Personally I like the Android TV Boxes, with Kodi and the Exodus add-on.

  • Thanks. Will look at ps3 or chrome cast or android kodi. Anything in particular too watch out for? Tv does have hdmi but not usb

      Not really.
The PS3 would be better than the Xbox 360, but it would still be one of the slower devices (its really old).
However, it can double as a BluRay player and cheap Game Console.

Chrome cast is the cheapest form of entry, but it requires you to have a Netflix capable phone.
It's usually okay, but I don't like the slight drain to battery life and being tethered to it.

Apple TV is okay… if you're into the Apple Ecosystem.

Your best bet is to hookup your laptop via HDMI.
Or get an Android TV box, as it has been said, with Kodi/Exodus add-on, not to mention Chrome Browsing, Android Apps, and RetroArch/Happy Chick.
From the low-end you can check out something like the Gem Box. And on the mid-range look for something like the Zidoo X9S. And on the high-end you have the Nvidia Shield TV.

PS3 also had wifi which the Xbox 360 missed out on. The interface of the PS3 is quite simple and if you buy the bluetooth remote is a really good media player (no MKV support though).

Sony BDP-S3500 refurbished smart bluray with an additional 20% off CRACKA20 = $72.20
or $118 new on sale at JB-HIFI. Less messing around than a chromecast
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SONY-BDPS3500-Blu-ray-Disc-Player…
I've had good luck with Sony refurbished goods, I've bought a TV and three of these bluray players all have been indistingishable from new.

Buy a chromecast. Only about $35-$40 and you can use your laptop or smart phone as the remote. Google chromecast set up. Extremely easy
