Fly through Kuala Lumpur

Trying to find recent discussion on OB on the need for a visa if flying via KL. Anyone know approx. date it was posted. With thanks

  • I entered Malaysia on visa waiver no probs. Looks like 99% of the planet is on their 90 or 30 day waiver list.

  • Transit, i.e. staying airside, requires no visa. Anyway Australian passport holders get 90 days stay if entering. Other nationalities, check.

The right place to check is the relevant website of the country. Forum discussions can be out of date and you don't want to get entry conditions wrong.

  • Thats what I thought. But I recall a discussion on OB fairly recently that stated otherwise but can't recall all the details. So just making sure I can transit through KL International without any problems. Thanks for that reassurance.

    • Even North Koreans get 30 days visa free in Malaysia…
To enter Malaysia there isn't any entry forms or anything like that. Just a simple stamp, get your photo snapped and index finger prints taken.

  • I remember when the plane started descending into KL airport, over the PA "This is a reminder that Malaysia has a mandatory death sentence for drug trafficking". Dunno if they expected people to rush the toilets, but it was basically too late if you were. The tone was just like a standard seatbelt message.

    • That's standard…yet there are so many idiots who still tried to bring drugs into Malaysia. They only regretted when they get death sentence

  • If you book separate flights & they don't have online check in, you may need to clear immigration, then go to counters and come back through it all again.

Getting a connecting flight is your safest bet.

    • Also allow enough time if the flights are for different airports, i.e. KLKA and KLIA2.

  • No visa required to enter Malaysia, should be no problems if you're just transitting through the airport.

  • 90 day visitors Visa is granted on arrival in Malaysia for holders of Australian Passports.

  • Just don't wear a LOL T-Shirt.
