Clarification to title: the 25% bonus is for Premium Ascent, i.e. Platinum Charge rather than Platinum Edge

Didn't know there was a difference. Thanks for pointing that out.

      • thanks for updating!

EG: Normally you can convert Gateway points to Velocity FF points at a rate of 4:3, but now you can do it for 1:1 ratios. For example, if you were planning to redeem the 100k bonus points with Virgin, they are actually worth 75k Velocity FF points and now you can convert 100k MR Gateway points to 100k Virgin FF points.

I don't understand the above - 100k Gateway points would normally get 75k Velocity points, and with a 15% Velocity bonus would get 86,250 Velocity points. Why are you saying it is now 1:1?

    • Bad Math. LOL

      86,250 is the correct number.

      Even with 25% it's only 93,750.

      • I got that example calculation from another post. I have deleted it so no confusion.

        • It is still wrong - you cannot transfer at 1:1 from Gateway to VFF under this promotion.

          4:3 plus 15% does not equal 1:1.

        • @djkelly69: when you login to your account, it says 1 MR point = 1 Velocity FF.

        • @djkelly69: i will delete the example then, whatever the ratio is, the description on the page is 15% extra so i will just leave it as that.

@runamuck: If you have Ascent or Ascent Premium, yes it is 1:1. If you have Gateway, no. Gateway is still 4:3 (plus 15% for this promo).

Source: Just logged into my account and checked.

        • @djkelly69: thanks for confirming. Example deleted

        • @runamuck:
          for Accent - is it 1:1 + 25% bonus?
then it worth to join for $80

is there any other decent benefit from Accent program other than better conversion rate?

        • @Skky: disregard - 25% bonus is only for Premium Accent that comes only with Platinum cards..
          so it is x0.75 + 15% or x1 -$80.
          e.g. 100k -> 86,25k VP or 100K VP-$80. extra 14k VP for $80 - 0.55 cents per extra point
If you have 150k, then it will be even better -> 129375 VP or 150k VP - $80. 20k VP for $80 - 0.4 cents per extra point

        • @Skky: How do you upgrade from Gateway to Ascent for $80?

        • @djkelly69:
You are here: Membership Rewards > All Rewards > Financial Rewards > Points for Annual Membership Rewards Fee

although i seem to have the choice of

          PFEE-002G $80 (or 10800 points) and

          PFEE-001G $40 (or 5400 points)

on my explorer card, dunno what the difference is?

        • @djkelly69:
login to your rewards portal. page is called "ENROL IN MEMBERSHIP REWARDS"
once you logged in, url is https://www316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/auth_reg/en_…

        • @Skky: Thanks, found it.

Have you actually upgraded from Gateway to Ascent using this? I did not think this was possible.

        • @djkelly69:

Nope, I haven't yet. will chat with support to confirm

        • @djkelly69: If you have 2 AMEX cards, one with Gateway, and one with Ascent, then you can ring AMEX and have them link both to the more generous Ascent.

        • @Peck: You can try - most reports on AFF indicate this is getting harder and harder to do.

        • +1

@djkelly69: Yep it might be a bit hit and miss, but mine went through a few weeks ago. Originally AMEX had 'automatically' linked my Explorer to my Platinum's Ascent program, and I had to de-link to get my sign up bonus. And then after a couple of months, I rang and linked it again.

        • @Peck: Thanks, good to know. Did you have to spend/empty your Gateway points after you got the bonus before you could transfer back to Ascent?

        • @djkelly69: Nope they transferred them all over making them all instantly more value for Freq.flyer redemptions.
Amex used to be 'hasbeens' once credit cards became wide spread (I am going back a while) but their customer service is unbelievably good! It seems like they have been told "If in doubt, do it in favour of the customer".

  • Even with 25% bonus I am still better off using my points for Asia Miles.
