Hawaii Honeymoon

Hey guys

Im looking to book my honeymoon shortly. (November)

Just checking if there was a better way to get rates flying with hawaiian airlines? Looking at the extra comfort seats.

Also any ozbargain resorts anyone can recommend?

Cheers in advance

  • recommend Fairmont Maui - every room is a suite, was certainly nice having the extra room for our honeymoon.

    • This looks amazing

      • i found plenty of virtuoso agents willing to do great deals (try flyertalk forums) - ended up with deluxe ocean suite with daily breakfast, airport transfers and late check out with ~35% discount… we were very happy with the experience, amenities and service.

i also booked the hawaiian airlines inter island journeys separately and found at check in if you selected row 1A for example, it would let you "upgrade" to first class for USD$50 which when you factor in a bag was US$25, it wasnt bad as they also gave us 3x premix cocktails to take to the hotel also last on the plane, first off but note that theyre literally only 20-25 minute wheels up, wheels down trips.

  • we did our honeymoon in Waikiki and stayed at the Outrigger on the beach to be close to the action and then splurged on staying at the Hilton resort near the marina for the later half of our trip. When we checked in we mentioned (and in the booking) we were on our honeymoon and we got upgraded to the Ali tower, which is a adults only tower and has a no kids pool etc. Just don't do the timeshare session to get free luau tickets, waste of time with a pressure sales people.

Pro tips - download the happy hour app and make use of all available specials. Teddys bigger burgers is worth a go at Zoo end of beach. Ross opp cheese cake factory (also a must) is great to have a shop if you can be bothered spending the time sorting racks of clothes. There are no theme parks in Hawaii, but we did wet n wild which was great. Also hired a mustang on turo and took a trip up to the north shore and did a zip line farm tour plus hit the shrimp food trucks.

PM me if you have any questions - we've done Hawaii a few times and always keen to go back.

    • As there are no theme parks, is it good to take 9 year old son? We went to gold coast and had a very good time. Not sure whats in store for us at hawaii if we decide to go.

      • Havent been there with kids sorry so hard to answer, but looks to be lots to do as a family. If you did take kid you would want a hotel that had a kids club i think.

      • I took my 3 kids there last year. Wet & wild was fun. We also walked up diamond head, did a day trek to that waterfall near Honolulu and did a few kms along a path from the waterfall. Like chriskq, we hired a jeep and rent up the east coast, stopped at 2 beaches for a swim and had lunch at a Mexican roadside restaurant. Moana mall was meh -basically labels, OK for a couple of hours including lunch. Walmart just a few blocks from moana mall was good. Great for souvenirs and booze is inexpensive. It's like bigW on steroids.

    • great info here!

    • Perfect timing with a Hilton discount if you have not booked already https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/312569

I would try and book another hotel through expedia so you bundle your flights and accom together to save $$ and then tack on the hilton - assuming you are going for a decent amount of time. We did 10 nights for our honeymoon from memory.

  • Both the fairmont and the four seasons are meant to be amazing.

It's your honeymoon. This is the time where you don't skimp.

    • Cheers for that! Wasn't planning on skimping - just looking for the best 5 star accommodation @ good rates.

  • +1

Try MyHawaii, Expedia or HawaiianAir holiday packages - sometimes you can get a decent bargain on good places if it's in the dates that you want

    • Awesome just checking this out atm

  • Before i book through Hawaiian Airlines directly for flights - are there 3rd party websites that have better rates for the same flights?

I'm a velocity/Qantas ff any benefits here? I think my CC provides free travel insurance off memory.

    Thanks

    • Booking a package (flights accom) through expedia can save you a fair bit (plus cashrewards)
