Looking for Cheap IPS monitor sub $150

The P2417H was going out at Dell outlet for $150 2 weeks back, but I missed it when I got home. This week the 2317 is now worth 190 bucks on Dell outlet.

So I'm looking for an alternative. Is there anything with similar quality for similar price? Don't mind second hand.

If not… Will the p2417h be back for 150 sometime in next 2 months? Thanks.

Let me get out my crystal ball…

TBH, you can always just go onto a PC parts store and browse for a model.

If you're looking for something around $150, you're going to have to wait for a sale. If you need it urgently, there isn't really much choices but to boost your budget to $200.

    • Haha I just assumed some people might have kept watch on the Dell outlet site, like I do for the laptop section.

It's not urgent, I can wait. It's simply inconvenient to wait, that's all.

What models should I be looking out for? Assuming I do wait or I'm bumping up my budget to 200 range?

      • If you just want an IPS panel monitor, in that price range they pretty much use the same panels. I think it just comes to which you like the design of or the features.

        • Oh? Doesn't software affects quality too? Like, what is the difference between the Dell Ultrasharp and professional series to warrant the extra $130 rpp?

        • @Wonderfool: Dell's monitors, the ultrasharp and pro series, will have the factory calibration but comparing my Dell U2713HM and my IPS237, I don't see much of a difference in terms of colour.

Personally, I'd just be going for design and features for a monitor thats sub 200, they'red be using e-ips panels which are cheaper to produce and supposedly does not cover all the colour variations possible by traditional IPS panels anyway.

        • @ProjectZero:

Ah ok. If that's the case, then an E series might be sufficient? It's a whole 60 bucks cheaper on Dell outlet. Or should I stick with the P series after all and take the price hike?

        • @Wonderfool: Not sure if the E Series is an IPS monitor though.

        • @ProjectZero: It depends on peoples definitions tbh, it's turned into a semantics and trademark debate on many a forum.

General consensus say they aren't IPS monitors but its all down to looks..

        • @dfaktz: LOL really?

Based on the dell website it states that some of them are TN though with the exception of two of them.

      • I might be a little out of date, since I bought my Dell outlet monitor a year ago, but from my experience monitor prices stayed roughly the same each time a particular model showed up. YMMV, but my two cents if you're willing to wait.

I got a P2416D, a somewhat rarer model at the time, with a bit of patience, so if this is what you're set on and you're not in a huge hurry then my opinion would be to wait out the outlet.

  • Depends where you are but try having a look on Gumtree. There are a heap of IPS monitors of varying size going for less than $150.
E.g. 24' Samsung gaming monitor full hd IPS 1080p ($80)
    E.g. Dell Ultrasharp Monitor U2311H ($99)

    • I don't know models. I'm guessing the u2311h is really good since it's part of the Ultrasharp series?

      • yes the u2311H is a solid monitor, just look up the numbers when you see something reasonably priced. Theres a few old ultrasharp monitors that havent aged well

Personally, I've had good luck with Facebook market place recently. Someone was selling a qnix 27" 1440p IPS for $150 a few days ago

  • Just grab a dell U24XX second hand.

  • I can see there is an IPS monitor selling for $131 at Dell outlet at the moment

    Bundle #: DFO-D59H2AU
    Condition: AS NEW
    Model: DIS,FPL,23,P2314H,ANZ

    • Thanks! Is there any difference between 3 year old monitor and a new one? Otherwise, I think I'll get this one.

  • +1

I'm just wondering if you have bought the monitor, if not, there is an IPS on sales at the moment,

    Acer R231 23" FHD LED Monitor $89.10 C&C @ Bing Lee eBay

You can check the specification here

    • Thanks! I've also noticed that it's only 99 bucks for full price. Is it a good monitor? I don't spending extra for colour accuracy and less glow. If this is good though, I'll go for it.
