Suggestions for autorecharging Telstra pre-paid

Dilemma:

Telstra Prepaid Plus, but had the same issue with Freedom Plus and Encore before that.

28 day expiry.

So let's put on autorecharge so we don't forget to recharge and lose any rollover or accumulated account balance.

For some reason they only allow recharge on the same day of the month - eg. the 15th, despite these pre-paid plans being 28 day expiry.

So they have some convoluted system of extending the expiry date so you don't lose your data.

Fine - unless you go through your data and/or calls early and decide to buy a data pak or recharge again early.

If you do that on the 10th, the autorecharge system will still do your scheduled recharge on the 15th.

But I've got data now, no need to recharge me again.

Sure I can then go an alter the recharge day, but that's not always convenient to do as it's not available by USSD or 24x7. Not sure about their mobile site - I usually do it on their full site. Regardless, it's a hassle changing it and it's a bit confusing which day of the month to put in without cutting the expiry too short.

Compared to just an option like "Recharge on expiry" that isn't there.

Any nice solutions to this?

You get the full month (not 28 days) when you auto recharge.

    • Yep, I indicated that with "So they have some convoluted system of extending the expiry date so you don't lose your data."

Buy your recharges at Coles, you get FlyBuys plus it's included for any bonuses on offer (eg. spend $50 per week for four weeks get 10,000 points)

    • I sort of need something automatic - even if I set reminders to recharge, I'll get those reminders when it's simply not convenient to recharge.

Maybe other networks have a automatic 'recharge on expiry' option, that doesn't lose whatever carries forward for not recharging before expiry.

    I cannot see a solution.
Perhaps you could try buying a higher tier or buying a separate data sim. I think that could work around the problem.

    • Funny enough the separate data sim was the best I came up with too. Regret not buying the dual sim S7 now.

Higher tier - it's only probably every 6 months I run out and need to recharge early.

      • Back ages ago you used to be able to use credit me 2 u to get data from another SIM. Is that an answer for the occasions you need extra data?

        • I used to use creditme2u to keep an account balance non-zero so left over data would work, but I can't recall now.

Before on Freedom Plus, you accrued an account balance but could only purchase international call paks.

Now on Prepaid Plus you can purchase data paks but you don't accrue an account balance.

I do however have a healthy account balance carried over from Freedom Plus. If I use it to buy data or calls, the issue still remains - the auto-recharge will charge on a set day, even if I have quota good for days/weeks.
