Dell Missing Accessories From Box - Purchased From Grays Online

Hello all, I just want to get your opinion on something. I am upset now, so I may be not thinking clearly, I may be just a moron…

I bought a Dell dual monitor stand from Grays Online. The description of the item says:

GST Note: GST is included in the final bid price of this item. GST is included in the freight and buyers premium.
Condition: Resealed

RESEALED means

Products listed as 'Resealed' have not been sold to a consumer. Items will generally still have their original packaging but it may have been opened for testing or other purposes. In some instances accessories may vary from the standard (for example, software or manuals may be missing or different).

The description from Dell says

The two adapters provided on the stand, assured that the dual monitor stand can attach to any VESA compliant monitor.

I received the box without any adapters, spacers or screws, all of them should have been in the box (by my logic). I contacted the seller and:
1) first they said a refund is in order, I was fine with that
2) they said that the box should contain no adapters => no refund
3) after me showing them what the box should contain adapters, spacers and screws, they say that because they did not mention the adapters being there => no refund

I went to Fair Trade and they just told me that Grays says that the stand was advertised as a Dell monitor stand and that it can be used with different brand monitors but special brackets are required which can be purchased separately. I believe they are again misrepresenting what it should be there. The brackets are not "special", and they should be in the box.

For me this is like selling a PC with a GPU that needs a PCIe cable but the PSU does not have a PCIe cable. The PC works fine if you use the included IGP, everything that is on the ad is there, you cannot use the GPU but the ad is correct.
It is like the PC has an SSD and a HDD, however only the HDD has a SATA cable, does everything work? sure, the ad did not say the cable was there so…. no cable.

I believe there should be an expectation of what the add should say, they clearly had no idea what should have been in the box so they did not include anything missing in the add. I did my due diligence, I researched the product, I knew it should work with any monitor so I bid on it with the expectation that the spacers, adapters and screws to be there.

So now my only recourse is to pay 48 AUD to have my case heard in court. It is obviously a waste on my time and money, a waste on the courts time because the value of the product is around 110 AUD. However I feel that they are counting on this, on me doing nothing. Logic says let it go and never ever touch anything from Grays ever again.

So am I right to expect the box to be complete or are they right because they did not mention the adapters would be there?

Thank you.

  • I would really appreciate people putting in some explanation on why they voted like they did.

From my point of view it is common sense to specify in the add what is included and what is not included. Not specifying that anything is missing implies that nothing is missing. Nowhere in the add does it say that things are missing, their example of "software" or "manual" implies that things that can easily be downloaded from the internet. The adapters missing makes it that I cannot use the monitor stand for any other monitor except Dell monitors that have a Vesa mount. The original item would allow a much, much bigger selection of monitors to be used with (any Vesa monitor).

Lets take other ads from them

they specify what is there and what is not there, as I would expect it to be.

Also I was probably wrong to call what is missing accessories, that implies they are nice to have extras. They actually increase the selection of monitors that can be used by a factor of 10.

    Is this the missing bits?
If so, the fact that part numbers are mentioned are a red flag to me!

    • It can still snap on 2 Dell monitors, however the missing adapters should allow to mount any monitors with a Vesa mount, not just Dell ones. I do not have Dell monitors, I do have Vesa monitors that should work with this mount if the adapters would be there.

  • +3

If something has been "resealed" I'd expect everything that came in the original box to remain there.
