I am looking for any suggestions for a private room, in or near Tokyo for a 10 night stay in October. we would prefer a double bed, however, we would take a bunk bed if that's all we can get! a private bathroom would be nice too, but think I am pushing my luck with that one. I know all the rooms there are small, thats ok, as we spend most daylight hours out and about, just need somewhere to sleep at night. I have been looking extensively and just can't find anything. I think I've had too many trips to the cheaper areas of Asia and struggling to accept the prices (we pay max $30 night in Bali). I would really like to spend no more than AUD70 a night, but would go to AUD $100 if we have too. we don't mind being out of town for somewhere nice. I am also finding many places are showing as booked out already for that period, which seems very early to me! any suggestions would be appreciated

Airbnb for sure will get you in that price range. Plus discount usually for that length of stay. We booked a unit to ourselves for 3 near Akihabara for bit over $100 a night. And if you are new to it, sign up using a Ozb referral code to get more discount and help a bro out.

$30/night in Bali? Backpackers? It is farking expensive in Bali I dont know how you got such a deal.
Check out Hotel.com, Trivago, Expedia, Tripadvisor, etc etc. I think you might have some difficulties trying to find a 70/night private room that is in a convenient location. Japan is also quite pricey for everything.
Have a look at toyoko inn's if you need to secure something with flexibility to cancel. Otherwise wait until closer to your travel dates for deals with the major booking sites.

I stayed at Tokyo Kiba Hotel, Tokyo a few weeks ago, it is a double capsule hotel which costed around $60 a night. It was a cool experience but the capsule would be pretty tough for 10 nights. They also had small double rooms, with bathrooms for around $70. It was simple,clean,cheap and not to far out from Tokyo. Enjoy your trip.
