Advice on Porting (Amaysim to Amaysim)

I am currently on Amaysim, but need to port out to another provider, and back to Amaysim.
What is the best, cheapest, and factest way to do this?

  • Pick up a cheap sim pack from Coles/Woolies, port your number to that carrier, wait until it ports (a few hours) and then port back to Amaysim under a new account. Will take half a day total waiting time tops.

If this is for a "new accounts only" special, make sure you contact Amaysim first and ask them if you can just get it applied to your account. There's a decent chance they'll give it to you if you ask and say you'll port out if you don't get it.

    • Thanks for letting me know.
My question is more of, can you buy a $1 sim with zero credit, and use it to port? Or do you need to recharge such sims before porting.

      • Yes you can. No need to recharge the $1/$2 sim. Just wait till the new ported service is active on your sim and you're good to go. I've done it before heaps.

  • Make sure you port to a provider that uses Vodafone or Telstra, as Amaysim uses Optus it will take longer if using Optus/a Optus MVNO

    • Thanks. Noted. Will be using a $1 sim from voda.

I find a $2 Woolworths Mobile sim to be a good choice for this type of thing. The signup and activation process is one of the easiest out there and completion of porting is always very quick.

You don't have to charge with any credit.

  • current cheapest option is porting to kogan for $1 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/307832 and then port it back to amaysim

Port it to Telstra. Order a Telstra Pre-paid sim online which is free of charge.

    • Thank you! I saw and used your method which is fuss free and free of charge. Ordered the free Telstra SIM card with Day2Day Plan during Monday office hours, received Telstra couriered SIM card which required signature on Tuesday, activated and ported Amaysim over to Telstra within a few hours. After checking from Amaysim online site that I no longer had access to my previous account, I then ported over from Telstra back to Amaysim for the 6 months $29.90 promotion. Easy. Thanks again.

      • When you port back to Amaysim for the $29.90 promotion do you need to use a new sim card or can you just use the same sim card that you previously used with Amaysim? This is the part I don't understand what to do. When you sign up for the $29.90 Amaysim promotion won't they send you a sim that you need to use to activate the deal?

I want to do the same thing as you, port out from Amaysim and then back again to sign up as a new customer to get a new customer deal but I don't want to mess things up and be stuck without my mobile number for too long. I have just received a free Telstra starter pack sim and don't know how to proceed. Can you help?
