Switching from Xbox to PS4 - Is The Pro Worth It?

Hey Guys,

I'm looking at getting rid of my Xbox One and games and getting a PS4. Why? Xbox doesn't have exclusive games. Well, not many that are interesting. I'm keen for games like Spider-Man (PS4 Exclusive) The Last of Us, Days Gone etc. I don't play many third party games simply because they don't tickle my fancy that much. However, I love local multiplayer games (hence I mostly play Nintendo) and am interested in Battlefront 2 split-screen and Wipeout Omega Collection and BroForce. I don't care for graphics but I do appreciate a solid frame-rate. My main concern is that going forward the PS4 will struggle with the frame rate of games, e.g. Battlefront 2 Splitscreen or Spider-Man. I know I would prefer a Pro but whether one is worth it or not is another question.

I'm not made of money so I would sell or trade all of my Xbox One gear. I've got an original 500gb Xbox One console, two controllers, Kinect and 13 games:

  • Assassin's Creed Black Flag
  • Battlefield 4
  • Batman Arkham Knight
  • Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
  • Call of Duty Ghosts
  • Fallout 4
  • Far Cry 4
  • Halo the Master Chief Collection
  • Lego Batman 3 Beyond Gotham
  • Rayman Legends
  • Shadow of Mordor
  • Star Wars Battlefront
  • Titanfall

EB Games has offered me $318. I'm not sure if ebay would get me more. I have an extra $300 dollars to spend on a Pro at this time.

Could anyone lend me some advice. Which would be the better option? Save some money and get the standard PS4 or spend more and get the Pro?

Thank You!

  • Take $318 those games are all old and not worth much at all. the console is also old and not worth much when the Xbox one S has been selling for $279

take a look at sold listings on ebay and they had to deal with selling fees postage and paypal fees.

    • Yeah, that was pretty much my thought process. It's good to have someone confirm that though. Thanks!

Decent deal for the ps4 pro with 3 games.
Horizon zero dawn is a must play though.

^with this deal i'd say the ps4 pro is worth it.

          @Snesbit:
If you do ask someone at the store if they are an ebgames member to get bonus value on trade. I ask the girl who sold it to me and she used her platinum card and got me a bonus 20% on trade in value.

I say take the pro as it is future proof and there are so many exclusives.

Just like most, I agree, go with the PS4 Pro.

Not only will you get all the goodies from the standard PS4/Slim… but it has some benefit to HDR/4K TV's.
Although it's not really that powerful, no where near what you need for 4K.
I think the benefits it has are more useful for the PS-VR and improved framerates.

*One good example is Fallout 4.
On the Standard PS4 you're getting 1080p/Medium Settings/no AA, and around 25fps with FREQUENT dips to 20fps.
With the Pro's Boost Mode, runs at 1440p/Medium Settings/MLAA, and around 30-35fps locked.
The PS4 Slim and subsequent updates have probably help keep the framerate stable around 25fps.

I reckon the pro is worth it because you only make the investment once(ish) however bear in mind the new xbox for $650

Xbox One X has great specs like 4K@60fps but I'd choose exclusive games over it. Visual fidelity is nice but I prefer gameplay. Assassins' Creed I'm looking at you - looks better and better each game, but boring game play since AC2.

Loved The Last of Us on ps3/4 and the Uncharted series.

  • I am happy with my Pro, I was in your shoes not long ago! very happy i decided to go with the pro.

I would also be happy with what EB Games are offering you for your trade in! I belive they have a ps4 pro bundle for $549 this week with Horizon (Must play exclusive) and Watch Dogs 2 (Is awesome in pro enhanced) , Elders Scroll online: Morrowind and a remote (Not needed IMO)

pro is the best console hands down.
if you already have another platform, decide whether the exclusives appeal to you enough or not.
there are plenty of decent exclusives out and upcoming.

Take advantage of EB Games' E3 Trade offer! 50% extra on all games you trade towards a pre-order of a game spoke about at E3! This stacks with your current EBW membership. So trade and buy the Pro and place $10 on any game! Extra $$$

I'm a bit of a framerate snob which is why I mainly play PC, 30 fps just feels bad to me, some games like uncharted 4 sort of pull it off but it's in the minority.

I'm considering trading my ps4 in and paying a little more to get a ps pro, just for the boost mode to hopefully get higher frame rates and reduce input lag.

Basically what I'm trying to say is you have the right idea going for the ps4 pro, The ps4 regular isn't enough if you care about frame rates like me… I also think 4k is a bit of a meme at the moment, we've got an industry trying to run (4k 60 fps [allegedly… I don't believe it]) before they walk (1080p 60 fps guaranteed) because of stupid consumers falling for hype.

  • Get the PS4 pro. I got my PS4 when pro was not released and envy the pro. I am not going to buy the pro as I already have PS4. I will likely jump to ps5.

Another thing is do you have a 4K tv?

  • As above, the pro is the obvious choice.

Only reason I don't have one is because I have a limited edition PS4 that I can't let go and there are no limited PS4 Pros out.

  • "I don't play many third party games simply because they don't tickle my fancy that much"

Every game you're selling is third party besides 1 lmao
