Cheapest Car Parks in Melbourne South Bank (near York Street)

Where can you find the cheapest whole day parking in Melbourne South Bank, if you want to travel to work in your own car?

Comments

  • real pain to find all day parking in south melb.
Cheapest commercial car park i know of is in Gladstone Street. $7.50 all day about 15min walk depending on where on york street.

I do believe you can get free on street parking but you will need to walk like 20 minutes to york.

    • That's not too bad. Google Maps say it will take exactly 15 minutes for me to walk.

      I am in dilemma.

If I use Public Transport, then that's a $8.20 per day for me and it'll take me about an hour each way.

If I use my car and park at Gladstone Street, then it will most likely be $12 tops when I take fuel into account. But it can take anywhere between 28 to 55 minutes for me to get there depending on traffic.

      Hmm…. decisions decisions.

      • If it can take upto 55 mins EACH way(plus $12 cost), versus an hour each way (plus $8 cost) - I'd personally prefer the public transport. You can at least doze off/do your own thing(me time).

        • true, though it is bus + train + tram, so I think dozing off is risky. :)

        • @nushydude: haha fair enough, having to make connections does put the equation out of balance. If your connections are erratic, the car might work out better. Your best bet is to try both for a few days to gauge which one is working out better for you.

yes, that is the plan. but first I needed to know if going by car was worth it at all.

btw, I found out on parkopedia.com.au that there is street parking for $8.10 near my destination. Is this for real? I bet they fill up quite quickly. But if I plan to arrive around 8am, will there be a chance?

  • Here's the link for Ace Parking Gladstone St http://www.aceparking.com.au/find-parking/gladstone-street-s…

Otherwise, it's $10.50 at Bank St if you use Secure-A-Spot booking. It's a 15 min walk to York St.

    • Thanks. More options the better.

BTW, isn't there a $1 booking fee if you want to book a bay beforehand at Secure-A-Spot which makes it $11.50?

      • Oh yeah forgot about the booking fee! Kinda defeats the purpose right -_-

Also kinda redundant having a public transport system that costs about the same as driving!

        • Well, if you weren't using all-day parking, then booking a bay is always cheaper, even with the $1 booking fee. Eg: I recently parked for half an hour (or hour - cannot recall) in the CBD for $4 parking fee + $1 booking fee. It would have cost me $8 otherwise.

Doesn't seem to apply for all-day parking. Sucks!
