  • I'm sure its a good price for the genuine article, but with prices that high for something you'd only build once, you can understand why the cheap Chinese knock-offs are having such great success.

    • Is there a knock-off for this or similar?

      • Search 75159 on aliexpress US$130 delivered.

Yes that is true and for a split second I myself had looked into the Lepin Millennium Falcon, but I looked deeper and realised the people who buy Lego ripoffs only make the situation worse (it almost made Lego go bankrupt) and nothing so far matches Lego for Design, Quality and Resale value, even if it has been used/assembled.

Since surviving possible bankruptcy, they also gave us Lego movies, video games, theme parks, they have given so much (joy) to us all.

As for the knockoffs you might as well flush your money down the drain or not buy building blocks in the first place.

Checkout this article for those of you thinking about buying anything that rips off Lego innovation.

Also Legos convenience factor, you can go to a department store and buy Lego, not like with the knock off's which like most things, being only available online, makes them so cheap.

It's the pinnacle of building blocks and if you gave someone anything else they would feel cheated, even children know the difference.

      Any way rant over :P

For in production stuff sure, I have a few thousand worth of legit lego. But seeing stuff like 10143 Death Star II thats been out of production forever and costs $2k+ on Ebay from third parties that can be bought for $130 on aliexpress… yeah I know whats tempting me.

And in both cases Lego get no money either.

        • I had no idea lepin existed until reading these comments. Just bought that death star and ucs X-Wing. Recently bought the Lego Porsche during one of the big w sales and had a blast. I always wanted one of these death stars growing up but they were always way too expensive (that and these models discontinued now). I'll continue buying Lego, though for some sets Lepin seem like an ozbargainer's alternative.

      • Completely agree with your rant, certainly not wanting to take anything away from Lego that have brought an excellent product and a lot of joy to millions for a very long time. The challenge they face with their overwhelming success is the increased number of people that desire it, but cannot afford the massive, expensive sets like this one and they're more likely to move to a cheaper (and inferior) product.

      • I think Lego almost made Lego go bankrupt. They admit themselves they were hiring the wrong type of people to design their toys. Now they've got actual Lego fans designing their sets and quality (as in playability, looks and sturdiness) has gone up and made their sets worth buying again.

Megabloks, even though they are legit and licensed, suck compared to lego. Their tollerances are not tight enough to fit well.

Id hate to see how bad knockoff lego blocks are.

You can also often bricklink the parts for cheaper then source the unique stickers and minifigs elsewhere too.

      • I have one Lepin set. It's a Batmobile set long retired by Lego. If you find it on eBay it's about $400. It was $40 on AliExpress, so figured I would take the risk.

I was surprised by the quality. Bricks fit very well together. Can't comment on colour too much as every piece was black. The instructions were woeful.

And if you search YouTube there are plenty of others who have been surprised at Lepin's quality. There are plenty of other Lego knockoffs and their quality varies.

And I agree that Bricklink is a great place to shop.

  • A toy for $800 ?

    • More than a toy, plus it has over 4000 pieces.

This is a great price for a set that usually doesn't go on sale.
If you're a star wars fan and a lego fan this really is the ultimate set.
Many hours of building, lots of interesting little details in the set and looks great to display or play with (heaven forbid you should actually play with lego!!!)

Also good pricing to be had on the Assembly Square set right now.
The last lego sale Myer had they specifically excluded the Death Star and the Expert Creator sets from the sale.

I have this. It's great. I paid $800 two tears ago.

I'd shed a few tears if I'd spent $800 on a lego set as well.

Did the price make you cry?

I love the Amazon reviews for this…

"I can't believe I bought this thing. The buyer's remorse was instant. I'm 34 years old and bought a Lego Death Star. Is this what my life has come to? Spending hard earned paycheck dollars on plastic bricks? Whatever, dude! This is the BEST. TOY. EVERRRRR!!! I put it in my kitchen as a decoration. I like to crush the **** out of Lego Luke in the Lego trash compactor. Take that, maturity!"

and then a follow-up review 5 years later from the same dude:

I'm 39 years now and sold this on Craigslist for 1000USD …..BEST. INVESTMENT. EVERRRR!!! Then my bro told me I can sell it on Ebay for 500USD more…FML DUDE?!

      • Hahaha! That is the best review. Ever. I bought my hubby the original set for his first birthday that we celebrated as a couple….it's not even opened yet…I wonder how much it's worth now???

  • Rrrrrrripoff

  • This is the first time Myer have offered a strong discount on 75159. Cheapest on bricklink is $607 + shipping. Not bad for a retailer who can locally supply
