Good Jacket for Upcoming Trip

Hey guys, I'm going on a trip around Queensland for 6 nights to places like bileola, cania gorge, gayndah, monto, banana etc.
It's going to be some cold nights in huts and caravans etc.

Do you guys have any reccommendations for a durable/warm jacket under $100 for this trip? All I have is a bomber that's thin as. I thought about the Ben Sherman jacket from earlier this week but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger

Otherwise I might just hit up Kmart

Cheers

Rivers has some decent coats. I bought a thermal jacket for the snow for $15. All I needed underneath was a t-shirt

    • You know I forgot all about rivers, Will definately give em a go, thanks for the reminder
      I missed Aldi's winter sale :/

Perhaps invest in a quality jacket like this from Uniqlo. Attached is a bag so you can fold it up and use it as a pillow on long trips.

    • Do you have one of these? Any thoughts on how the quality compares to the overprices Kathmandu/North Face versions?

Yeah, I used it a lot when I went overseas and it's very warm.

But hey if you're on a budget what about one for $8.48? lol - OzSale. Link Here (but you need a new account).

I have a couple of these light down jackets from Uniqlo - they are pretty robust and you can stuff them into the washing machine on delicate if they get a tad wiffy. I wear mine most days in winter in Melbourne. They come with their own light bag and they fold up relatively small. They work well with Melbourne winters but I also have the thermal and fleecy tops from Katmandu so they work well when layered. I wouldn't use them for places that are really cold as they are relatively thin. I have also found that putting the thermal longjohns on under the jeans also works well. However, I would also look at Kathmandu at the moment, last seen they had something similar for roughly $100.

    • Yep, get one of those. I think they used to be $99 RRP though..

Not quite as good as North Face with the goose down feathers and higher fill, but it's cheap and warm enough with some layering.

I bought my Husband a thick polar fleece zip up jacket which is lined with fluffy fleecy - from Aldi, $24.99. Was about three weeks ago - there were still some left in the Aldis where I live (here in Melbourne) when I was there the other day.

I wouldn't say they are fashionable, but they are certainly warm.

If you don't have an Aldi near you I would be happy to pop in and source one for you if you think it might fit the bill - see catalogue for colours.

  • BCF have a decent sale. I was in there last weekend and saw jackets, but for the life of me can't remember prices.
