3 Bottles of Various Spirits $93 First Choice, Jack Daniels, Canadian Club, Bacardi Oakheart

80

A bit strange pricing structure

Jim Beam, Gordons, Johnny Red etc are usually between $30-$35 at various stores
however, Jack Daniels, Canadian Club, Bacardi Oakheartare usually at about $40 per bottle

3 Bottles for $93, so $31 each, plus 1000 bonus points for $100 above purchases
makes these bottles a quite good buy, not the best of all time, but still pretty damn good

  • FYI the Jack is the "1907" variant, which is 37% ABV and slightly different flavour characteristics, instead of the Old No. 7 which is 40%.

    • +1

It's amazing how much this drives pricing in Australia, alcohol excise tax is $82.27 per litre of pure alcohol in spirits (and way, way lower for beer).

So 0.7L * 40% * $82.27 = $23.04, at 37% it's $21.34. So when selling at $31 a bottle, it's $28.18 when you take the GST off leaving JD/First Choice $7 to make, bottle and distribute the stuff, vs $5 if they had the Old No. 7 in this deal.

Thus why 1907 only exists in Australia, so they can stay price competitive at the Beam/JW/CC level. A couple of dollars may not seem much but when you have fixed alcohol costs that are so high it's damn hard to shave a dollar or two off the price.

      • Yes those calculations sound right. So the excise is $23 per bottle
If they sell it for $31 that's $8 difference

Surely even with these buying power. They're not getting bottles of well known spirits for $8

What about cheap scotch that sells for $28 Inc gst

  • Oh damn. They sent a oops we made a mistake, it's supposed to be the white jack and not the regular stuff…
