Original FetchTV and mkv

I feel dumb guys
My goal is to be able to play all files including mkv on my sony bravia
It crashes whenever my 2tb hd is plugged in so I bought a Kaiser bass media hub a while ago which also sucks

I realized I have an old fetch tv from optus lying around (the original kind that doesn't have wifi built in)
Does anyone know if this plays mkv? There's no manual and I can only find info on the fetch tv hub
I don't really have a much to search with
All I have is
Model m605T

I can't test at the because I'm waiting for a longer ethernet to reach

Thanks yall

P. S. Can these be modded and stuff like that?

Cheers

  • What are you ultimately trying to achieve?

You want to plug a hard drive into your TV, but it's crashing?

How old is your TV? Is it a smart TV? I have a new Sony Bravia and use Plex on my computer to wirelessly stream to my television.

If I recall correctly, the older Fetch doesn't officially support USB playback. (I've read people have managed to get it to work, not sure how)

You might be better off buying a cheap set top box which has HDMI out and connecting a hard drive to that.

    • I just want to be able to watch my hard drive on my tv
I've been using videostream but prefer to have it plugged in

My tv is a 2015 bravia smart tv and can't handle the hd
I guess I should look into plex.

Any recommendations for what to use as a box for usb playback?

        • Use plex on a console (x360/XB1/ps3/PS4)
        • wdtv for mkv files (not plex)
        • Xiaomi mi TV (or similar)
  • Buy a cheapo media player box with USB 3. Cost about 70 bucks or so.

hard disk -> media player-> tv
