Duty Free Shop at San Francisco on Arrival?

Hi all,

A relative of mine had asked me to buy cigarettes/alcohol at duty free when I head over to the USA. I was just wondering if San Francisco have a duty free store at the ARRIVAL part of the airport? And also if it is cheaper to buy it from duty free departing Sydney or buying duty free arriving SF. (Direct flight, no stop over)

Thanks!

  • Get it in Sydney on the way back would be my recommendation. If they have requested something complex then buy it on the way out and collect when you get back in.

I get the impression OP's reli is in the US.

  • Ah buy it on the way out then. Otherwise you pay us tax at sfo.

    • Thanks for the advice! Sorry, I'm a little unsure if you mean on the way out of Sydney or on the way out of SF airport?

  • Duty free on arrival to the US is not permitted so you will not be able to buy anything. You can only get duty free when you depart the country.

    • Thanks for the heads up! It seems that cigarettes are cheaper there with tax than here without tax…

      • That wouldn't surprise me. Not a smoker but don't they only take half the excise tax off the cigarettes in duty free shops here?

If you are leaving before 30 June don't forget $10 off Syd airport
