Travel Insurance to Travel from Sydney to Brisbane for One Weekend with Jetstar

I am travelling with Jetstar from Sydney to Brisbane for one weekend in July.

I have already paid for the hotel etc.

Does Jetstar sometimes cancel flights without giving you notice? How long will Jetstar give you notice? Do you think that I should purchase an insurance in case Jetstar cancel my flight for no reason and I have to stay at a hotel at Brisbane for another night?

Thanks in advance.

How late is your flight? Last time Jetstar cancelled my brothers flight a day early, he got an SMS the night before saying the flight was cancelled. I called their call centre and they put my brother onto the next Qantas flight (Next to the one he would've taken on Jetstar) back at no change in cost. The flight was cramped though as I'm assuming they did that to everyone, also I was on the phone for ages.

But unless you're taking the last flight back, or its a super busy day, I'm assuming you'll be bumped to the next qantas or jetstar flight available? Whether that will be next day or not, I'm not sure. I don't think it happens often though?

    • I am booked for late morning flight, so hopefully I could be allocated to another flight on the same day if they cancel mine.

Also, are you paying by a credit card that would have travel insurance included?

    • No. I have used poli to avoid credit card fee.

    • I haven't seen any CC travel insurance that cover domestic travel?

I once purchased tickets through Jetstar price beat (Brisbane to Sydney return) and paid $7 I think for each of us each way(3 people). We were at the airport when the flight was cancelled and as it was past Sydney curfew they could not put us on another flight that night. They put everyone in a bus to a Brisbane hotel, where we were given dinner and overnight accommodation. Next morning they came back and collected us and we were on the first full service QANTAS flight back to Sydney. Later we each received a $25 Jetstar voucher for our troubles. Best $7 I ever spent.

    • The guy I used to work with have got bad experience with Jetstar. Hopefully that will not happen to me.

      • I generally fly Jetstar using the pricebeat. This is the only issue I ever had with them. I have found all staff to be pleasant.
Hubby on the other hand refuses to fly Jetstar.
