50% off When Buying a Single Pair of Glasses @ Specsavers

It's on again. The "buy one and don't get forced to pay for the second one" sale.

Normally Specsavers sell you 2 sets of glasses at a time. e.g. 2 pairs for $149. With this sale you can buy only a single pair, and pay 1/2 the price for 2 pairs. This makes a single pair of glasses (complete) $74.50 (from the "$149 range").

Other lens types and extra options not included. Multifocals and bifocals also available at an extra cost.

The above exclusions are not a big deal though, as these are charged at an extra cost per pair. That is, if you are only buying one pair, you are only paying for one set of your extra option anyway (instead of 2).

I put off getting new glasses until this sale comes around!

I get the feeling JV is not going to like this post. Not really 50% off as you are getting half as much for half the price…

    • Although given that you can only wear one pair of glasses at a time, in a way the result is the same, right? :)

      • I always get a pair of regular glasses and a pair of sunglasses. I only need to update my sunglasses now so great deal.

Bought a pair of ran bans off clearly.com.au and was out of pocket by $30 for the lens tints, I use to buy from specsavers but $50 for lens tints is a bit of a rip off

Would be ideal if they offered 50% off the FINAL price. Not going to happen anytime soon as that's where they make the dollars.

The one time I used SS I basically walked out feeling conned. These 'two for one' deals… yah, for the very average frames and of course the added 'extras'. I allowed myself to be 'up sold' terribly and I regret that I let my guard down.

Left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't expect I'll ever go back TBH. Seems many of the optical businesses run this way these days.

I feel like they are all a bunch of used car salesmen types… bit 'slimy'. (No offence to good/honest car salesmen).

Given what member 'O86' said, it seems my feelings may very well be justified. (thanks 086)

    A Luxottica company.
Which for those that are not aware, is a company that has pretty much cornered the market world wide for glasses, both prescription and sunnies.
Their ethics and practices are at best questionable and I steer clear of them.
Strongly suggets that those that read this at least look into these deadbeats first.

clearly.com.au, essilor, OPSM, Luxottica, Laubman & Pank, Busdget Eyewear are all owned by the same company.
Specsavers is owned by a couple living in the European tax haven of Guernsey.

      • Will have to investigate that further, as I've been advised prior that they are!
        Thanks

        • If this was ever to happen, it would send massive shockwaves through the industry, and would likely require approval of market regulators because of the size of this potential transaction (which has not happened to date)

        • @shmahoo:
          086 is right.

Luxxotica own 95% of the market including Ray Ban and Oakley!

They crippled the market by tefusing to sell at their retail stores and then buy out the struggling manufacturer including our own aussie Oakleys.

Dirty games. They also own licensing rights for ALL boutique luxury brands like LV and Gucci

        • @Suspect420:
I'm glad someone else here is aware of their dirty history.
They really are an arch nemisis to us bargain hunters here, what with their deliberate falsely inflated prices and market manipulation/coersion.

        • @Suspect420: sure. But in a post about Specsavers, it's important that the message is that as vertically integrated as Specsavers is, it is completely separate to Luxottica/Essilor (and therefore separate from OPSM/Sunglass Hut)

        • @shmahoo:

Well not entirely. I would assume most the supply would be manufactured by luxxotica.

          But it is an assumption.

I have no knowledge or experience in retail to be totally honest.

Specsavers is not under luxottica though? Maybe you're thinking of OPSM or sunglass hut.

Hey bala fish - I noticed you've only joined up with OzBargain this year. Welcome and thanks for contributing!

Specsavers definitely not under Luxottica. In my experience some stores are great whilst others are not so much being a franchise and all.

Recently bought a bunch of glasses from Zenni Optical, much cheaper especially if you want tint, coating, high index, etc.
