Please Help Me Find a Cheap Laptop for Our Business!

Hi Ozbargainers,

My husband has his own building business and needs a new laptop to run MYOB, word formatting and emailing - nothing particularly fancy.
As this is a new business we need to spend as little as possible, however neither of us are particularly savy with technology and feel a bit daunted when knowing what to look for. The only things i know for sure that we do need are 1. for the laptop to be windows compatible 2. for it to have a Solid state drive 3. have a decent battery as it will be used on work sites - that's pretty much it! My husband has been into the usual suspect stores - Goodguys, Harvey Norman etc. who have suggested he needs to spend a minimum of $950. We found this one but not 100% sure if it will be any good - http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-11-3162-laptop/pd?oc=z5112…

Do you have any advice on laptops that are cheap (ideally under $500) that would meet these requirements?

Any help you an offer would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!
Tash

  • Sounds like the $400 Inspiron 11 3000 you linked will be perfectly fine.

Plenty of ozbargainers buy it for similar uses, but a bit cheaper (during ebay sales and such).

  • Processor N3710
    128GB SSD, 4GB RAM
    11 inch display

Okay for general use, but spreadsheets on such a small display? not comfortable to work with.

Good Guys is running a promo for $499 on this Vivovook.

The processor and RAM and storage looks the same. Display is bigger.

N4200 1.1GHz (looks slow on paper but actually faster than N3710)
    4GB DDR3 On-board Memory
    128GB SATA SSD
    15.6" LED Back-lit Display

    • Thankyou! Do you think it matters that it isn't a SSD?

      • If it isn't, most laptops give you the option of adding in one.

SSD' isn't super crucial, but it's a definite nice to have.

edit: I'm pretty certain the Vivobook has a 128GB SSD.

Hard drives aren't usually sold this small nowadays. They are at least 250GB.

  • Wait, your in luck: that popular deal is back!

It's similar to the one you were looking at, but for only $320:

  • Thanks so much everyone for you help!

  • Ebay launch discount for laptops always, and it's really cheap if you can wait.
