Do Credit Limit Increase Invitations Trigger a Credit Check?

Hi all,

I have a Credit Card with ANZ and just received an offer to increase my credit limit.

I'm curious, do accepting these offers result in a credit check?

I'm sure we have a few credit wiz's on here that might know this through experience.

Thanks

I know for CBA accepting these Credit Limit Increase Invitations does not result in a credit check.

  • Despite opting out of receiving credit limit increase invitations, NAB now send letters asking me to opt out of what I have already opted out of!

Nice way around the governments regs………..

  • ANZ does, I have the ANZ FF Black card. I accepted the invitation last year and I got a credit enquiry in my Veda account the next day.

  • Absolutely not.
A bank cannot simply make an enquiry on your behalf because they feel like it

If you apply for a limit increase its a different story

However there is a difference between a pre a proved limit increase or just a random hey would you like to increase

    • Agreed. They can't do a credit check for a "pre-approved" credit limit increase invitation

    • Not sure why u got neg. For most banks this is true

This has been my experience as to whether a credit check is done for a limit increase request:

    28 Degrees: No
    Amex: No
    ANZ: Yes
    Bankwest: No
    CBA: No
    Citibank: No
    NAB: Yes
    Westpac: Yes

why people worried about amount of credit check requests?

Because the number of enquiries impacts your score ( even if by a small amount ).

Also, you can only make a few enquiries a year before you start to look risky ( even if you are not risky, and are only opening accounts for bonuses ). You want to use your enquiries to maximise the value of bonuses. You don't want to "waste" enquiries.

Year??? Lol. Plenty of us on here making one or more applications per month without problems

Yup I have been applying every month since Jan and no prob.

        • @tajid: Can't wait until 1/7 when I hit up another 3 applications!

        • @tomclancy: wah wah wah. What cards if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to reply via pm. Why the 1/7 date?

        • @tajid: will send via PM :)
