Who Won This Hand of Poker?

Hey guys, I was playing poker with my friend last night and interesting scenario came up.

Here is the picture of the hands we both had.

His cards were the top two in mine or the bottom two. He was adamant that he had one because he had a higher card than me however according to the official rules of poker, you must make the best hand possible using any combination of your two cards and the five community cards on the table. You can use both, one or none of your own cards in making the best hand. Therefore by that logic the best hand that we could both create was in fact made up of the five community cards, thus indicating a split pot.

Can you guys confirm who won this round or if it was indeed a split pot..?

Split pot. As there are already two-pair on the board and neither of you could beat a J it's a split.

    chop

  • The house always wins

  • Generally it is the 5 best cardS in 5 card Texas hold 'em. They do not have to be in your hand. (Hence why you both win).

  • I win. Give me your money

    • Sorry wrong reply….bikies

  • Texas Holdem is always and has always been any 5 cards from your hand or the 5 community hand. If both players best hands use all 5 community cards (as in this case) it's a tie and it's a split pot.

In other variants, Omaha for example, you have to use 2 of your own cards and 3 community cards, but since in your pic you only have two cards each I'll assume you're playing Texas which is perfectly fine to use all community cards.

    Your friend is wrong.

  • im with the others here. its a split pot.

  • Why did you need to ask ozbargain, the rules are pretty clear and available online?
